NORTH HURON VISITORS GUIDE Visitors ’ Guide Festival provides list of area Bed and Breakfast places Continued from page 3 each season. Listed also is such information as the facilities each home has available, such as the number of beds and the number of bedrooms, whether they are older houses or modern, where they are located, and what special perks are available - one home near Bly th even offers its overnight guests a ride in a horse-drawn wagon, if they would like it! Nearly all serve mouth-watering country breakfasts at whatever hour their guests request it, often with home-made breads, muffins, jams and jellies, and often with eggs sofresh they are still warm from the nest. The one thing they all seem to have in common is that theirguests keep coming back year after year, often making reserva tions a year in advance to be sure they can get their “own” room back the following year. Ms. Hill says that each home is free to set its own rates for the services it offers, and that when people ask, she can only give them the average prices of the facilities on the list - some may be slightly higher, and some slightly lower, depending upon what they are offering. This year, she says that the “average’ price for a single room is about $20, while the “average” price for a double is about $25. Lettingouttheir spare bedrooms is definitely not a money-making venture for most of those who offer them - they do it just because they like people, and are delighted to meet new friends from all over the world. Hazel Dalrymple offers beds for 3-5 people in her lovely, quiet home only 10 minutes’ walk from the Festival theatre, as well as home-made muffins and jams at breakfast. 9To(mstea Bed & 'Breakfast Cozy guest rooms in a distinctive older home offering youa warm welcomeand comfortable accommodation. What was once one of the main industries of Brussels has been turned into a popular recreation site for the village with the dedication of the Brussels Dam in 1985. The old mill still stands beside the Maitland River that once provided power for several Brussels industries. Today the Logan Mill stands empty with various dreams for its restoration being explored. It provides a scenic focal point for the new park operated by the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority. Visitors can cross over the top of the dam to the parkland on the other side of the Maitland. Altogether there are four acres of parkland with plenty of space for family picnics in the picnic pavillion to open areas to play games. The whole area is conveniently close to the Brussels, Morris and Grey swimming pool and the wading pool in the same complex. Just across the road from that is the Brussels ball diamond. There is also a playground for children. All this is located within a couple of blocks of downtown. To reach the old mill, turn east of Brussels main street (Turnberry St.) at either King St. or Mill St. and keep going until you come to James St. The picnic area can be conveniently reached by turning south on Albert St. from Queen Street (County Rd. 16) which will take your car right to the edge of the park on the east side of the river. the. luntzy Q-tmosfa-LZT-e.
