Art Bos takes 2 4-H Grand Championships at Fair Art Bos of Bellestein Farms of RR 3, Blyth, a member of the Hallrice 4-H Dairy Calf Club, has captured both of the top awards at the 4-H calf show held at the Clinton Spring Fair June 3. Showing his project calf “Belle­ stein Buck Bunny,” Art won both theGrandChampion4-H Show­ manship and the Grand Champion 4-H Calf awards, as well as taking first place in the Junior Yearling class and in the Senior Showman­ ship division with the heifer. His brother, Conrad, placed first in the 4-H Senior Heifer class; second in the Junior Showmanship class; and third in the Grand Champion Calf class. In addition, Donna Johnston of RR 2, Bluevale, a member of the Brussels 4-H Dairy Calf Club placed third with her Jr. Yearling while her sister, Carla, placed third with her Jr. Heifer and got a ninth in Jr. Showmanship. Fred Peel of RR 1, Auburn, a member of the Bayfield Dairy Calf Club, placed fourth with his Summer Yearling and eighth in Sr. Showmanship. Twenty-four steers consigned by Murray Shiell of RR 3, Wingham, averaging 1385 lbs., sold for an overall price of $90.52 with sales to $92.75. Eleven steers consigned by Gord Roulston of RR 1, Ripley, averaging 1313 lbs., sold foranaverage price of $89.70, with sales to $92. Choice exotic heifers brought $88 to $93 with sales to $97.50; good heifers fetched $84 to $88. A heifer consigned by Tom Wylie of RR 4, Durham, weighing 970 lbs., sold for $97.50, and was purchased by Norwich Packers of Norwich, while his total offering of four heifers averaged 978 lbs., and sold for an overall price of $92.39. Two heifers consigned by Wil­ helm Bros, of RR 4, Walkerton, averaging 1190 lbs., sold for $96. Thirteen heifers consigned by Murray Mulvey of RR 1, Clifford, averaging 1033 lbs., sold for an average price of $91.24, with sales to $95.25. A white heifer consigned by Glen Kerr of RR 3, Palmerston, weighing 970 lbs., sold for $94.50 with his total lot of five heifers averaging 1056 lbs., and selling for an overall price of $87.05. Five heifers consigned by Neil Rintoul of RR 2, Lucknow, averaging 1184 lbs., soldforanaverageprice of $91.55 with sales to $94.25. A red heifer consigned by Mark Brecken­ ridge of RR 2, Bluevale, weighing 1090 lbs., sold for $94. Choice cows sold at $58 to $63; good cows brought $55 to $58; and canners and cutters went for $51 to $55. Thirty to 40 lb. pigs traded to a high of 80 cents per lb.; 40 to 50 lb. pigs traded toa high of 94 cents per lb.; 50 to 60 lb. pigs traded to a high of 94 cents per lb.; and 60 to 70 lb. pigs traded toa high of 89 cents per lb.
