The chance tor families and friends to worship together in an outdoor
setting came Sunday when five Brussels churches took part in the
second annual Community Church Service, held on the lawn of the
Brussels United Church. Rev. Charles Carpentier led the worship,
Rev. Pat Nunn led the prayers, and Rev. Doug Zehr delivered the
sermon. The service was followed by a picnic lunch and social time,
highlighted by some friendly rivalry at the Brussels Optimists’
Dunking Machine.
Blyth's Sunshine
Unit hears
of refugees
The Sunshine Unit of Blyth
U.C.W. met on June 9 with an
attendance of 20 members who
answered the roll call with a verse
from the Book of Colossians.
Mary Wightman and Evalena
Webster conducted Devotions,
and as they had attended West
minster Weekend in London, a few
days before, they gave their
impressions of the subject which
was, “A Closer Walk.”
The topic speaker was Myrtle
Vodden, who first read a Letter
from the Division of World Out
reach in Huron-Perth Presbytery
which contained news of five young
people living in refugee camps in
Thailand who have been given
permission to emigrate to Canada.
They will join relatives who have
been living in the South Huron
area. Their housing is being
arranged by the Exeter United
Church people. Huron-Perth Pres
byterychurches will be sponsoring
other aspects of these young
Laotians’ living accommodation.
Myrtle also described what takes
place in a day of a Black Woman in
South Africa.
The business portion of the
meeting consisted of making extra
plans for the U.C.W. catering for
the theatre dinner on June 17 in the
Community Centre. There are still
available a few tickets for this
popular event which precedes the
out door program and the opening
play.
Another big meal, catering
plans for which were also discuss
ed, is the Graduation Banquet of
Blyth’sGrade8’sonJune23, at the
United Church.

St. Augustine hosts Knights
St. Augustine Parish recently
hosted the Father Michael McCor
mack Council 9484 Knights of
Columbus Communion Breakfast.
Mass was celebrated by Father
Frank Dentinger. Altar boys were
Maurice Delbergue, Darrell, Kev
in, Patrick, Jamie and Ryan
Hallahan. Lectors were Neil Stap
leton and Walter Stalenhoef.
Ushers and Gift bearers were Ron
Delbergue and James Finleon.
Eucharistic Ministers were Ray
mond and Leona Boyle.
Organists were Mary Catherine
and Maureen Stapleton. Mary
Catherine was trumpet soloist and
accompanied Renee Stalenhoef as
she sang a beautiful rendition of
Alleluia.
There were 13 Fourth degree
Knights from neighbouring coun
cils who formed an honour guard. It
being Corpus Christi Sunday a
procession and Benediction of the
Blessed Sacrament was held on the
Church lawn.
This was followed by a luncheon
in the church basement. Master of
Ceremonies was Cyril Boyle.
Father Frank asked the blessing
before the meal. Rene Brochu
District Deputy brought greetings
from the State Board. He announc
ed the Neil Stapleton family were
voted Family of the Year and the
award was presented to the Father
McCormack Council at the state
convention. Bill Van Osch present
ed Clarise Dalton with a donation
from the Council to help promote
the work of the Pro Life Group.
Clarise made a fitting reply and
asked for continued support.
The ladies of the Catholic
Women’s League under the direc
tion of their president Agnes
Delbergue served a delicious meal.
Neil Stapleton thanked the ladies
Emma Franken replied on their
behalf.
Grand Knight, Donald Frayne
gave a report of the state conven
tion and displayed the plaque
which was awarded to the Family of
the Year. He introduced the guest
speaker Father David Przedwiecki
of St. Peters Clandeboye. Father
gave a very informative talk on the
Franciscan Friars and their entry
into London Diocese and to
Canada.
