BOBBI JO MARKS County council briefs Bobbi Jo Marks of Vanastra has graduated with honours May 27, 1988 from Westervelt Business College, London. Bobbi Jo Is the daughter of Agnes Marks of Vanastra and Robert Marks of Fruitland. She Is a former student at Blyth Public School. Tax bite Higher costs for the Huron County road building program caused by the provincial budget tax increases may not be as bad as expected, Dennis Merrall, county road engineer told county council June 2. There are indications, he said, that contracts awarded prior to the April 21 budget date will be exempted from higher sales tax. The increases would have meant a deficit of $338,000 in the road budget. This had been offset by savings in lower than expected tenders for construction of $176.000 leaving a net short fall of may not be so hard on budget $162,000. If the tax increase is deferred the county could be eligible for savings of $92,000. To make up the difference the county may defer tendering for a front end loader at a estimated cost of $200,000 and/or a sand dome for the Auburn yard at a cost of $60,000. ***** The county’s request for a $200,000 supplementary subsidy from the Ministry of Transport for construction of a road to the new Ball's Bridge has been turned down but the county will build the roadway anyway. As Mr. Merrall pointed outdryly, it wouldn’t make much sense to build the bridge without the road. The county agreed to allow the Huron Municipal Police Commun ications System to use the county radio tower at Auburn for an antenna for the system’s radios.***** The Consultation Committee on County Government Reform will hold a meeting at the Council Chambers on Wednesday (today) from9a.m. toSp.m. They will hear from the general public from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. In the early morning they will meet with the county’s committee that was form ed originally to make presentations to the review committee then after lunch will meet with individual municipalities.***** John Tibbutts, president of Conestoga College reported to council on the work of the college which serves Huron county. He said he honestly could not see the possibility of expanding daytirfie education in the county by provid ing an in-county campus but he foresaw increases in part-time study. He pointed to the success of the local contact committee in Brussels and predicted every community in the county may soon have a similar committee. ANOTHER NISSAN MAJOR EVENT.
