Phone 887-6677 Concentration is the name of the game in T-bail, and three-year-old Jeffrey Linton of RR 2, Blyth, gives it his all, coached by his mother, Brenda, at the Walton Community Park on Saturday. T-ball runs every Saturday morning from 10 -11 a.m. at the park, and no registration fee is necessary for 3-6year-olds, Mrs. Linton said. She added that all ldds have to do to take part is show up. The Walton I unit held its June meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Mitchell, Wednes­ day evening. Gloria Wilbee opened the devo­ tions with the hymn, “We plough the fields , with Margery Huether assisting at the organ. The scrip­ ture was in form of a skit by Donna McClure and Gloria Wilbee giving a meditation. The hymn, “This is my Father’s world’’ was sung. Donna gave a reading on the theme - “For Land’s Sake.” The offering was received and dedicated. Phyllis Mitchell had a video on the farming crisis. Papers were passed around as a quiz followed with a discussion on farm facts. Marie Coutts conducted the business, thanking Phyllis for the use of her home. Audrey Hackwell read the minutes of the last meeting then took the roll call when 22 ladies answered on the role of the rural woman. Doreen Hackwell gave the treasurer’s report, then copper contest leaders, Gloria Wilbee and Audrey Hackwell gave their report for each side. The kitchen was to be cleaned on the Thursday morning with the board meeting to be at Keith and Gloria Wilbee’s home Sunday evening. Theunitis responsible for flowers to be put in the church for the month of June. Dates were given out for luncheons for the Blyth Festival with the first one on June 23, the other two on Sept. 1 -8. There will be no meetings for the summer months, the U.C.W. executive meeting is setfor Sept. 7. Both units will meet on September 14. The June meeting of the Institute was in the form of a car tour when a car load of ladies motored to Kitchener last Thursday. They went to the market, gift and china shop, stopped for lunch, then on to the White Rose Nursery back to Elmira for a tour of their interest­ ing shops before returning home later that afternoon. Conservation club learns power of water BY MARK WALKER On June 7 the 4H Soil Conserva­ tion Club held its fifth meeting. Due to guest speakers and field trips over the last couple of meetings, members haven’t dis­ cussed meetings. The first meet­ ing they discussed ‘The Power of Water ’. It dealt with water erosion. They learned about sheet, rill, gully and streambank erosion. The other meeting was entitled ‘Blowingin the Wind’, it was about wind erosion. This meeting made members aware of factors contri­ buting to wind erosion. There are many - the wind, soil moisture, surface, texture and structure, vegetative cover, field area, topo­ graphy, and wind barriers. The next meeting will be on June 21 in room 117 at CHSS. People around Walton Misses Margaret Shortreed and Emma Shortreed, Toronto have returned from a 24-dav trip to Australia. They were able to meet with Ann McKarney, formerly Ann Shortreed and her daughter Leslie. Viola Kirkby and Jean Bewley of Brussels returned home recently from a very enjoyable trip to China.
