The Cookie War is rehearsing in the basement of the Blyth Memor ial Hall, under the direction of Francine Volker, with sets by Allan Stichbury, costumes by Kerry Hackett and lighting by Kevin Fraser. Cookie is written by Kathleen McDonnell, who has just given birth to a baby girl and is now hoping she will be able toattend the premiere of her play! Familiar faces in the cast include: Laurel Paetz who is returning for her fifth season, Judith Orban for her second season, and Severn Thompson for the youngest member of the cast of Cookie, who is here for her first season, but has been involved in the Blyth Festival’s Youth Work shops. Making a first appearance with the Festival are: Donna Farron, Andrew Wheeler, John Koensgen and Vaughn Fulford. Thegala opening for the 1988 season featuring a performance of The Cookie War takes place on Friday, June 17. Tickets for this play are selling extremely well and already many of the matinee performances are sold out. The cast of “The Mail-Order Bride’’ by Robert Clinton is suffering from extremes of heat and cold, flies and birds (the birds are new this year) as they rehearse in the old garage building. This play is under the directin of the Festival’s Artistic Director Kath erine Kaszas. Bride is the second production of the summer and opens on Wednesday, June 22. In the cast for this production are: Judith Orban, Karen Barker and Peter Smith, (all members of the 1987 company); plus newcomers: William Dow, Vaughn Fulford, Carol Sinclair and Aidan Devine. The sets are by William Chesney, costumes by Kerry Hackett and lighting by Harry Frehner. For tickets or more information contact the Blyth Festival Box Office at (519) 523-9300/9225.
