Former Brussels resident Ken Wood dies Many in Brussels and area will be saddened to hear of the death Kenneth Soud Wood, D.C. who died at Clinton, May 9. Dr. Wood was born in Stratford on May 2,1933 to the late Lilian and Albert Wood. Moving to Brussels in 1935, his family operated a Ready-to-Wear business ior over four decades. Ken attended Brus sels Public School, andF.E. Madill Secondary School in Wingham. During these years, Ken’s musical talents were appreciated by many as he won honors in music festivals, played in bands, and participated actively in the local variety shows. Dr. Wood graduated from Can adian Memorial Chiropractic Col lege, Toronto, in June, 1958. He married Donna Jean McBride later that same month, and together they moved to Clinton where Ken opened his chiropractic practice on July 14. Dr. Wood became renown in the chiropractic profession, and was a significant force in the shaping of its policy. During his undergradu ate years, Ken was elected presi dent of the student body, the beginning of his lifelong dedica tion to the profession. He became President of the Ontario Chiro practic Association, served on the Chiropractic Board of Directors for the Province of Ontario and was a member of the Governor’s Club of the Chiropractic College. In recog nition of the esteem in which Dr. Wood was held, Ken was chosen Chiropractor of the Year. Always a leader in his communi ty, Ken was a faithful supporter and member of Wesley-Willis United Church, and served on the Session. He chaired the public school board, and more recently, served on the Clinton Klompen Feest Committee. Ken’s great love for the water, and in particular his joy of sailing, led him to become involved in the formation of the Goderich Power Squadron, of which he is a Past Commander. Dr. Wood is survived by his wife, Donna, their five children, Adri enne, John, Carolyn, Michael and Jennifer, and one granddaughter, Kara. Alsosurviving is a sister, Elayne Rintoul of Wingham, and a brother, Bob Wood of San Pedro, California. A memorial service was held at Wesley-Willis United Church on May 15 with Rev. James Bechtel officiating. The large crowd in attendance was privileged to hear John Wood deliver an eulogy in honour of his father, and Dr. Bob Wingfield, who spoke on behalf of the Chiropractic Association. The hearts of family and friends were lifted by the beautiful musical tributed rendered by the Wesley- Willis Choir. Municipalities get grants A number of municipalities in the Huron Provincial riding have been successful in obtaining fund ing assistance from the Ministry of Tourism and Recreation to hire summer students for recreational programs for 1988. One student will be hired by Seaforth, Hensail, Zurich and Wingham and District Community Living Association. In addition, the Town of Wingham will employ two students for their junior play ground program and the Township of Hullett will be assisted in financing three students. The township of West Wawa- nosh has recently been advised by the Ministry of Environment that it will receive $400 in funding assistance to implement a munici pal recycling support program.
