Seventy-seven majorettes from four communities took part in the competition, which featured nine categories including basic march ing, military marching, parade marching, modelling, solo and duet twirl, solo and duet dance, dance and twirl teams, and corps production numbers. The corps production number was a new category this year, and had to have at least 12 members in each group. The girls were judged on marching, style, timing, preci sion, team work, variety, choreo graphy and audience appeal; and they could use a flag corps if desired. A second new category this year Lawn bowling begins The members of the Brussels Lawn Bowling Club met at the Club house, May 16 at 7 p.m. They intended to bowl but it started to rain so they went inside and played euchre. At a meeting which followed at 9 o’clock the fees for 1988 were set at$40permember, $10for any new member, Jitney fee $1 and bowl rental at one dollar per night. The Brussels Lawn Bowling greens are in excellent condition due to the overseeing of Gerald Gibson. Gerald looks after the fertilizer, weed spray, and water. He seems to know the right amount and the proper time to use each. George Lavery and Richard Lind berg will be cutting the grass again this year. The Bowling Club is always looking for more members. It is to be hoped that more people in Brussels and Community will use this excellent facility. There will be bowling each Monday and Thurs day evening. Any person or group ofpersonswouldbewelcome.
