The Belgrave Women’s Insti
tute entertained friends and mem
bers at a most successful dessert
luncheon last Tuesday evening,
May 17.
The hall was beautifully decor
ated with arrangements of colour
ful tulips. President Mrs. James
Hunter opened the meeting with
apoem, “Take Time for 10
Things’’. After a sing-song, which
wasledbyMrs.GlenCoultes, Mrs.
Garner Nicholson gave two humor
ous readings, “The Battle of the
Bulge’’ and “Life After Forty".
Mrs. Norman Coultes followed
with a poem, “When God created
Mothers".
The guest speaker was Mrs.
Eleanor Wood who lives on a dairy
farm at Troy, Ontario. Her topic
was “Your Attitude determines
your Altitude." She stressed the
fact that your attitude determines
whatyou do with your life, how you
think, and how you get along with
others. She was a positive, viva
cious, witty speaker leaving every
one with the mandate, “Just Build
a Better You.” Mrs. Norman
Coultes thanked Mrs. Wood and
this portion of the meeting closed
with the Mary Stewart Collect.
Mrs. Alice Scott presented Mrs.
Lawrence Taylor with an Institute
pin in honour of 11 years of taking
care of the W.I. Hall. This year
marks the 100th anniversary of this
hall which has been owned by the
W.I. for the past 20 years.
Minutes were read and approv
ed. An appeal was read from the
Salvation Army. Mrs. Clare Van
Camp gave a report on the W.I.
Conference which was held at
Queen’s University, Kingston.
The District Annual is to be held
at Auburn on May 30 and the East
Wawanosh Public School Banquet
will be held on June 23.
The W.I. bus trip to Niagara
Falls will be June 14. Please notify
Mrs. Clare Van Camp or Mrs. Pete
Campbell before June 4 if you wish
to go.

Approximately 45 Edgar rela
tives gathered at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Harvey Edgar and son
Don on Monday, May 23 to
celebrate Victoria Day. All enjoyed
a barbeque at noon.
Everyone took part in the various
activities such as: golfing, canoe
ing, horseshoe pitching, fishing,
playing cards and ending with a
pizza supper. Those present were
from Toronto, Islington, Tavi
stock, Petrolia, Brigden, Aylmer,
Lucknow, Wingham, Blyth and
Belgrave.,

since he had a stroke. He had been

continued to paint and live life as
normally as he could.
I have a painting of Jack’s on my
livingroom wall, a present given by
the Festival when I stepped down
as general manager. It will be even
more precious in years to come
when I look at it and remember the
remarkable man I had the privilege
to know.

tion and Gideon Sunday in Blyth
United Church. Theservicewas
led by Fred Howson and Martin
Baan, members of the Gideon’s
International.
Rev. Lorenzo Ramirez in his
conversation with the children
talked about what it meant to join
the church. They all sang, * ‘This is
my church, your church, our
church." Anita Bromley was their
leader. Rosie Fidom was in the
nursery.
The choir’s anthem was “Make
me a Channel of your Peace.’’
Martin Baan spoke on “The Great
Commission." Fred Howson told
about some of the marvelous
changes wrought in peoples lives
because they have read a Bible
placed by the Gideons. Flowers
were in memory of Joe Holmes.
