Horsepower ’88 Travel trailers offer an alternative for those who like the independence of taking their own accommodations with them. Studies show they are also economical. Centre brake light adds safety Travel trailers alternative Travel trailers and other recrea tional vehicles play a strong role in providing an interesting and eco nomical vacation alternative for many people. A study comparing vacation costs found that RV camping vacations are overwhelmingly more economical than other op tions. RV vacations, on average, cost 52 per cent less than comparable car/hotel vacations, 68per cent less than bus/hotel and Train/ hotel trips, and 78 per cent less than air/hotel vacations. An international certified public accounting firm with expertise in the tourism and hospitality indus tries, conducted this study in the summer of 1987 using a hypotheti cal travel party of two adults and two children travelling between 25 selected city pairs. They found that camping vaca tions using different types of RVs, including motorhomes, travel trai lers, truck campers and folding camping trailers, were the four most economical types of vacations among eight vacation types studi ed, regardless of trip distance, trip duration, or regions of the country Studies have shown that the centre brake light that is standard on recent models is extremely effective in cutting down the number of rear-end collisions. Its effectiveness is increased because the extra brake light is visible through intervening cars. The more cars equipped with third brake lights the more effec tive the program will be, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Basically, the light should be mounted on the centre line at the rear of vehicle, preferably at either the top or bottom edge of the rear window, even if there is a window sill area. within which the vacations took place. The study analyzed costs for fuel, round-trip fares, restaurant meals, groceries, rental cars, campsites, and hotels and motels. Airfares were based on an average of round-trip coach competitive and special fare offerings. Travel trailers provide an attrac tive option for families looking for exciting family destinations, but seekingtoavoidthe high costof family trips. With self-contained sleeping, eating and washroom facilities, travel tailers are an excellent option for many people. While it can be mounted outside, it makes more sense to mount it on the inside parcel shelf to reduce damage and the chance of vandal ism. A major requirement is that there is a shroud that concentrates the light outward and keeps it from distracting the driver. Most of the do-it-yourself pack ages contain a logic circuit module so it can be used on cars with either separate turn signals or turn signal lights that share the stoplight bulb. Normally you would tap into the stop-light wires at the rear of the car. The logic unit separates the power and only energizes the centre brake light when the brakes are applied. The centre light must not go on when the turn signals are used. Of course, if the logic circuit is faulty or there is no logic unit in the package, just run a wire under the carpeting to the brake-light Locally owned and operated 190 MITCHELL AVE. S. switch on the brake pedal at the front of the car. The other wire from the centre brake light should be fastened to ground, that is the metal portion of the vehicle, to complete the electrical circuit. If it is mounted inside, it should be secure enough so it doesn’t become an unwanted flying object in case of an emergency stop. It can be painted to match the car’s interior or covered with fabric, preferably one that is slightly flame resistant. There will be no danger of overheating because the unit should only operate when you apply the brakes, but there’s no sense in not taking precautions. Afteryou have completed the wiring, test the light by having someone press the brake pedal and use the turn signals - with the ignition on, of course - todetermine that it works correctly before going out in traffic.
