Phone 526-75W Young pianists Amy, foreground, and Elly Wilts of RR1, Auburn were among the more than 30 students of Londesboro music teacher Gail Lear to perform at a year-end recital in Blyth on Sunday. Each of the girls played a solo, then teamed up for a duet, above. The Horticulture Society meet­ ing was held at the Auburn Community Hall on Wednesday, May 11. The president Mrs. Maurice Bean welcomed all. There were 46 members and three children pre­ sent. The minutes were read by the secretary Anne Vincent. The fin­ ancial report was given by Elliott Lapp. Mrs. Bean thanked the people who canvassed for new members. There was a bake sale and yard sale held by the Lions Club on Saturday, May 7 and the proceeds of the bake table of $308.80 was presented to Elliott Lapp by Don Haines and David Cartwright for the Horticulture Society. Discussion and reports (re) flower beds, hanging baskets, manchester gardens and the foun­ tain were given. Mrs. Nancy Slater reported on the collectibles for the June meeting. Anyone having any special article or collectibles please display them at this meeting. Information can be obtained from Mrs. Slater. The program committee, Lois and Don Haines and Kay and ElliottLapptookoverthen. Kay Lapp read a reading pertaining to acid rain. A contest - guessing the number of blooms on Maxine Seer’s geranium plant at the restaurant was given by Lois People Sunday Mother’s Day company with Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cartwright were their son Paul and wife Wendy of London. Mother’s Day visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hallam were his brother Roy and his mother Mrs. Viola Hallam of Lucknow. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lawlor spent Thursday with Mrs. Florence Steckley of RR 5, Stratford and on Friday visitors with the Lawlors were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Needham of London. Haines and winners were Eppie Lawrence, Marion Haggitt, Anne Vincent, Mary Stoll and Erma Cartwright. Mrs. Haines also had placed several pictures of flowers and members had to write down the namesofthem. The winner was Maureen Bean. There were door prizes won by Erma Cartwright, Eppie Law­ rence, Laura Mae Chamney, Jane Giousher and Mary Stoll. There was a huge plant sale with Lois Haines as auctioneer with Grace Cartwright and Dorothy Grange as helpers. Elliott Lapp stated that the sale brought $100 and the group has to date 112 paid members. Sebring Wilts conducted the morning service at Knox United Church with organist Mrs. Gordon Gross. Call to Worship was read alternately followed by the hymn, “Stand Up and Bless the Lord’’. The minister gave the Prayer of Approach followed by the Lord’s Prayer. The announcements were given. The children’s story was about “Lambs.” The hymn, “Since Jesus came into my heart’’ was sung. Rev. Wilts read scrip­ ture reading from Isaiah followed by prayer chorus, “Whisper a Prayer in the Morning’ ’. Miss Lori Millian played a piano solo. Scripture from Acts was read. The sermon was by Rev. Wilts. The offering was received by Peter Verbeek and Ken Ramsey and dedicated. The hymn, “Take Time Cancer Society raises $2048 The Cancer Society campaign in the village of Auburn and the community realized $2,048 plus $92.50 from the sale of daffodils. Frances Clark wishes to thank all those who were so generous when the canvassers called and also the canvassers who gave so generous­ ly of their time. Those who assisted with the canvass were Eunice Arthur, Ethel Ball, Maureen Bean, Grace Cart­ wright, Linda Dunlin, Kay Lapp, Viola Raithby, Bessie Slater, Anne Vincent, Edgar Daer and Frances Clark. tobe Holy” was sung. Theminister pronounced the Benediction fol­ lowed by the Benediction Re­ sponse, “Now Thank we all our God.” WMS hears of synodical highlights The May meeting of the Presby­ terian W.M.S. was held at the home of Mrs. Erma Cartwright. The president Martha Daer presided over the meeting. Words of welcome were spoken to the members and visitors. Martha had charge of the devotional period. The scripture reading was from the 37th chapter of the book of Ezekiel. The meditation was entitled “Turning Backbones into Wish­ bones”. The guest speaker was Mrs. McAllister who spoke on the highlights of the synodical meeting which was held in St. Andrews Church, Windsor. The meeting closed with the Mizpah benedic­ tion. People Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Darcey Andrews of Auburn who were married on Saturday, May 14. Sorry to report that Mrs. Wilma Brawley is a patient in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich. She is wished a speedy recovery.
