Grey holds line
on local tax rate
Grey Township Council held its
regular meeting on May 2 and
adopted the 1988 Budget. Council
was able to hold the 1988 require
ment for municipal taxes at exactly
the same level as 1987, largely as a
resultof a $78,000 surplus from
1987 and a supplementary grant of
$45,000 from the Ministry of
Transportation.
Major projects for 1988 include
the 14th Concession Bridge, Drain
Relocation and Road Rehabilita
tion ($153,000), road paving in
Cranbrook ($35,000), road con
struction on concession 7-8, lots
10-15 ($35,000) and a partial
payment on a new grader
($65,000). The balance of the
grader will be paid in 1989.
In other business Council accep
ted the quote of Harloff Asphalt
Paving Inc. of Stratford amounting
to $2,094 for the sealing of the
asphalt parking area at the Town
ship shed.
Council approved general ac
counts totalling $30,134.11, road
accounts totalling $25,617.63 and
drain accounts totalling $996.00.
The next regular meeting of
Council is scheduled for May 16th
at 7 p.m.
Hullett councillors
protest
education hike
Hullett township council is
unhappy with the size of the
increase in the education levy from
the Huron County Board of
Education and is going to tell
education officials so.
Council at its meeting May 3
voted to send letters to the Huron
County Board of Education and the
Minister of Education protesting
the 13 per cent increase in the
education levy for 1988.
Council also voted to support
Stephen Township in its unhappi
ness with the size of the increase in
the levy from the Ausable-Bayfield
Conservation Authority. A letter of
support will be sent.
In other business council author
ized the road superintendent to tell
the Huron County roads depart
ment to continue with paving of
Londesboro streets. Approval was
also given for replacement of the
sidewalk along the south side of the
post office and the 16 feet of
sidewalk west of the Londesboro
United Church.
The reading of the report of the
Auburn drainage works will be
held Tuesday, June 21 at 9 p.m.
