In the spring a young man's fancy lightly turns to thoughts of messing about in a pleasant stream, and these Brussels youths were no exception as they took advantage of last weekend's warm and sunny weather to sail the Maitland River, setting out from Just below the Brussels dam. Malhiot and baby of Belgrave, and Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Blake and family. Mr. and Mrs. Dale McTaggart visited with Mrs. Marie McTag­ gart and Neil on Mother’s Day. Mr. and Mrs. Don Deitner and family visited with their parents Mrs. Leo Deitner and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Simpson on Sunday. Mrs. Edith Jessome of Seaforth and Mrs. Lenora Davidson of Blyth visited with their cousins Mr. and Mrs. Alvie Higgins last Tuesday. Visitorson Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Alvie Higgins were Mr. and Mrs. Don Edgar of RR 1, Allenford; Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Ward, Jeff and Julie of St. Mary’s; Miss Sandra Kechnie of Exeter; Mr. and Mrs. John Oliver and David of RR 1, Clifford, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Higgins, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Higgins, Dennis and Ronald of Blyth visited with them on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Don Edgar visited with Mrs. Winnifred Edgar on Saturday. Miss Marg Warwick of Kitchen­ er visited with her sister June Warwick and Gerry White on Saturday. David Huether, a teacher at W.J. fenton High School in Brampton was one of 30 outstand­ ing individuals who received an Award of Excellence from the Peel County Board of Education during Education Week. Mr. Huether received his plaque in recognition of his work as head of the Science Department of the school, as well as for his volunteer work in coaching sports, such as wrestling and basketball at WJFHS and for his volunteer work in hockey and baseball in the community. A large crowd was in attendance for the ceremony and for the musical programme which follow­ ed. Dave’s son Jeffrey played hock­ ey in Maple Leaf Gardens on Good Friday as a member of the top team of seven year olds in Brampton this past winter. It was a real thrill for him. Mr. and Mrs. Roger Tipple, Jonathon and Sarah, Burlington spent Mother’s Day at their home here. DON’T LET WILDFIRES Jpl BE YOUR FAULT! Melville WMS meets The May meeting of Melville W.M.S. was held in the church parlor with 12 members answering the roll call with a Bible verse containing the word “free”. Helen Elliott, the president, opened the meeting with a poem, “How faithful is springtime” and prayer. Hymns were sung with Wilma Hemingway at the piano. Ruby Steiss gave the secretary's report and Evelyn Mair gave the treasurer’s report. Wilma Hemingway gave the meditation on “No time for sunset’’. Psalm 113wasreadin unison. Thelma Cardiff led in prayer. “When God created Mothers’’ was read by Wilma Hemingway. The topic on Bangla­ desh was well given by Ruth Martin. Helen Elliott pronounced the benediction. Tea and cookies were served by the social commit­ tee and a social time enjoyed.
