Wawanosh get OHRP grants Morris and East Wawanosh townships received the largest of three grants under the Ontario Home Renewal Program (OHRP) announced last week by Jack Riddell, M.P.P. for Huron and Minister of Agriculture. Morris and East Wawanosh will each receive $40,000 grants under the program. Ashfield township will receive $15,000. Administered by municipalities, the program assists homeowners in upgrading their homes, with the emphasis on correcting faulty structural and sanitary conditions, as well as improving plumbing, insulation, heating and electrical systems. Loans of up to $7,500 are made available to eligible owner-occu pants who wish to bring their homes up to standard. A portion of aloan may be forgiven, depending on the recipient’s income. Interest rates range from zero to ten percent, again depending on in come. For applicants, the maximum annual qualifying income, after allowable deductions are made, is $21,000. OHRP benefits are available to owner-occupants in all municipali ties which have adopted minimum housing standards by-laws or resolutions establishing stan dards, and have decided to take part in the program. In communi ties without municipal boundaries, OHRP is administered by the Ministry of Housing in conjunction with the Ministry of Northern Development. More than 40,000 Ontario home owners have benefited from OHRP since the program was announced in 1974. OHRP is one of the Ministry of Housing’s initiatives to help con serve housing in Ontario.
