Blyth District Fire Chief Irvin Bowes, right, and Lieutenant Paul Josling display the new Stokes basket
stretcher and VCR which the department purchased recently for close to $1,000, using funds the firemen
raised at last September’s Pancake Breakfast, traditionally held as part of the Blyth Threshermen’s
Reunion. Chief Bowes says that the basket stretcher will be used for lifting an Injured patient out of a
difficult situation, while the VCR will be used to show the department’s firefighting training tapes to its
men.

receive a grant of $91,259 to
construct a Youth Centre for use by
young people in Exeter and other
community organizations.
“As communities grow and
change, so do their recreation
needs,” Mr. O’Neil said. ‘‘These
Wintario grants help ensure new
and existing facilities are available
tomeetthechanging needs, for the
benefit of the entire community.”
Capital Conservation Grants
have been awarded to four other
communities. These grants help
prolong the life of the facilities, so
that they can continue to provide
quality service and help foster the
well-being of generations of their
users. The following communities
will benefit from these funds:
•Howick Township: $4,267 to
install new drains and bottom floor
to the deep end of the Howick
Swimming Pool and install a new
liner.
•Tuckersmith Township:

for the Vanastra Recreation Cen

the outside of the South Huron
Recreation Centre.
‘‘Recreational facilities are im
portant centres of activity in our
community, and it is gratifying to
.seethese funds coming in to our
riding to enhance these activi
ties,” said Mr. Riddell.
