Councils sign recreation agreement After months of wrangling about whoshouldpayforwhat, represen- tativesofall five municipalities supporting the Blyth and District Community Centre Board got togethertosign the final agree ment, April 15. The reeves and clerks of the Townships of Hullett, Morris, East Wawanosh and West Wawanosh met with Blyth reeve Albert Wasson and clerk Helen Grubb Friday to put their signatures on the official document, following a luncheon hosted by Blyth council. Work to develop a formal agreement for the facility began nearly a year ago. but subsequent ly became bogged down when first Morris, and then Hullett and East Wawanosh objected to their assessments, which had been set following a survey of facility users. Nevertheless, all municipalities involved finally agreed to their assessments as a percentage of the total proposed budget of $85,700 for operating and maintaining the facility in 1988, after the survey indicated that 31 per cent of those using the facility came from Blyth, 24 per cent from Hullett, 20 per cent from East Wawanosh, 18 per cent from Morris and seven per cent from West Wawanosh. Translated into dollar figures, the agreement means that Blyth will pay $26,567 for the use of the facility this year, Hullett will pay $20,568, East Wawanosh will pay $17,140, Morris will pay $15,426, and West Wawanosh will pay $5,999. With no capital expenditures included in the new agreement, the Arena Board has called a meeting on May 2 of representatives of all community groups using the facili ty to discuss the updating and/or replacement of arena equipment over the next number of years. The meeting begins at 8:30 p.m. at the Community Centre. Business & Professional Directory 4-Hers learn to handle money The fifth meeting of Blyth I, 4-H club was held at the home of Darlene Giousher of Blyth on April 5. The members opened the meet ing with the 4-H pledge. Roll call was taken and the minutes of the last meeting were read. The topic of the meeting was “Banking on your money’’. Just for fun, mem bers did an exercise on naming the pictures on the backs of the Canadian bills. They then contin ued on the topic of money exchange rates from different countries. Financial institutions and their locations were discussed along with banking services. They learn ed about different banks accounts that can be obtained. A sheet was handed out with three blank cheques on, for each member to complete. Members found out just how interesting interest is, how to calculate interest, and when money starts earning interest. Where to save and invest your money was the next topic, with a case study, to complete. The home activities were reviewed and the leaders checked the members books.
