Phone 526-75M Guest minister speaks at Knox United Rev. Gordon Pickell of Goderich conducted the Knox United Church service. Lori Millian was organist. Call To Worship was read alternately followed by hymn, “Praise To The Lord The Al­ mighty”. Rev. Pickell gave the Prayer of Approach and the Lord's Prayer was said in unison. An­ nouncements were given. “Trust and Obey” was sung. Scripture reading was given followed by the Prayer Chorus. “Silently Now 1 wait for Thee.’’ The Senior Choir sang the anthem, “It is Well with My Soul.’’ Rev. Pickell’s sermon was en­ titled “Breaking the Circle of Worry". He said courage, confi­ dence and cheerfulness are the cure. The offering was received by Robert Worsell and Larry Plaetzer and dedicated followed by the Offeratory Response. “PraiseGod from whom all blessings flow, ’ ’ was sung. The hymn “What a friend we have in Jesus" was sung. Rev Pickell pronounced the Bene- dictionfollowed by the Benediction Response, "Now Thank we all our God." WMS ho!ds meeting The April meeting of the Presby- terian W.M.S. was held at the home of Mrs. Frances Clark. The president Martha Daer presided and gave the Call To Worship. The Easter Worship Service was followed from the “Glad Tidings’ ’ which included hymns, prayers and scripture readings. Marion Haggitt had charge of the program with Frances Clark reading the scripture portion. Lillian Lether- land had the study period which was entitled “resurrection Reflec­ tions". The next meeting in May will be held at the home of Mrs. Don Cartwright. The annual meeting of the Women’s Institute was held at the Triple K Restaurant in Blyth with a delicious smorgasbord dinner on Tuesday, April 19. There were 22 present. After dinner the president, Mrs. Len Archambault, welcomed all present and the Mary Stewart Collect was said. Fees for 1988 were paid. The minutes and treasurer’s report were given by the secretary Mrs. Robert Peck. There was a vote of thanks to the president Mrs. Len Archambault and Mrs. Robert Peck for their excellent work in the past years. The new president Mrs. Don Cartwright took over then. She called on the District President Margaret Taylor of Londesboro for the installation of the new officers for 1988-89. They are: past presi­ dent, Mrs. Len Archambault; president, Mrs. Don Cartwright; first vice-president, Mrs. Charles Merrill; second vice president, Mrs. Irene Moore; secretary, Mrs. Elliott Lapp; treasurer, Mrs. Tina Empey; district director, Mrs. Len Archambault; pianist, Mrs. Emer­ son Rodger; branch director, Mrs. Viola Raithby; public relations officer, Mrs. Tom Lawlor. Leaders of committees are: Agriculture and Canadian Indus­ tries, Mrs. Lloyd Barth; Education and Cultural Activities, Mrs. Oliver Anderson; Curator, Mrs. Tom Jardin; Tweedsmuir History Book, Mrs. Tom Jardin, Mrs. Oliver Anderson and Mrs. Frances Clark; Card Convenor, Mrs. Law­ rence Plaetzer; Telephone Com­ mittee, Mrs. Beth Lansing and Mrs. Tom Lawrence; Auditors, Mrs. Roy Daer and Mrs. Emerson Rodger. It was stated that the District Annual would be held on May 30 at the Auburn Community Hall with dinner at 12 noon. The standing committees gave their year re­ ports. People around Auburn Recent visitors with Mrs. Fran­ ces Clark were Mr. and Mrs. J. A. McIntosh, Mr. and Mrs. J. G. McIntosh, Christopher and Tracy and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Goffin, all of London. Recent visitors with Mrs. Ellen Johnston were Mrs. Earl Wight­ man of Lucknow and her son Harvey of Waterloo, Mr. Jack Young of Mitchell, Mrs. Jessie Naylor of Goderich, Miss Vera Schmidt of Lucknow and Mr. Pharis Mathers of Lucknow. Mrs. Ellen Johnston and Mrs. Robert Arthur visited over the weekend with Mrs. Arthur’s sis­ ter, Mrs. Mac Dean of Toronto. The U.C.W. of Knox United Church will have their Thankoffer­ ing on Wednesday, April 27 at8 p.m. Mrs. Barb Hicks of Clinton will be the speaker at Knox United Church on Sunday, May 1 at 10 a.m. While Rev. Hullett approves ball budget A special meeting of Londesboro township council was held at the township municipal building on April 12. After a general discussion with the Londesboro Women ’ s Institute the Londesboro Senior Citizens and the Londesboro Lions Club about use of Londesboro Hall and repairs required, the council got down to other business. Council agreed to adopt the baseball portion of the township’s recreation budget. The quote of Lawn Master to cut grass in three cemeteries (Kinburn, Londesboro and Londesboro west) at not more than $3,000 a year was accepted. Brussels Public School presented a full week of special events and displays to mark Ontario’s Education Week last week. At Thursday’s Open House and Tea Party for special invited guests, Grade Three student Michelle Illman of RR 5, Brussels, pauses at a display of pioneer artifacts to ask her grandmother, Doreen Ronald of RR 2, Listowel, to explain the function of a now-defunct “sad’’ iron.
