Hunter heads Women's Institute The April meeting of the Bel­ grave Women’s Institute was held a week early in the W.I. Hall, Belgrave. The meeting opened with the Mary Stewart Collect and the singing of O Canada with Mrs. Pete Campbell presiding. Minutes of the previous meeting were read. A thank you note was read from Mrs. Lawrence Taylor, who has resigned as caretaker for the hall. The Callander Nursing Home, Brussels, birthday was announced tobe heldon Friday, April 15 at 2 p.m. Achievement Nightfor4-HwillbeonMay3at the ClintonTown Hall. This has been a financial project and the girls have Belgrave Compiled by Mrs. Helen Stonehouse. Phone 887-9487 worked hard. This year the W.I. District Annual is on May 30 in Auburn with the Medical Officer of Health tobe the guest speaker. There will be a hall cleaning bee on Monday, May 9 and members are urged to give good support. Minutes from last year’s annual meeting were read and approved. Mrs. Lawrence Taylor, District President declared offices vacated and then installed a new slate of officers for 1988-89 as follows: Past President, Mrs. Pete Campbell; President, Mrs. Jim Hunter; first Vice-President, Mrs. Glenn Coul- tes; second Vice-President, Mrs. William Fenton; Assistant Secre- ary, Mrs. Richard Moore; District Director, Mrs. Pete Campbell; Alternate Director, Mrs. Norman Coultes; Branch Directors, Mrs. Bob Gordon, Mrs. Wilfred Walker, Mrs. Leonard James; Public Rela­ tion Officer, Mrs. Richard Moore; Curator, Mrs. Ross Taylor; Com­ mittee, Mrs. Alice Scott, Mrs. Gordon McBurney, Mrs. Garner Nicholson, Mrs. Lawrence Taylor, Mrs. Bob Gordon; Resolutions, Mrs. Leonard James; Sick and Shut in, Mrs. Garner Nicholson; Pianists, Mrs. Clare VanCampand Mrs. Norman Coultes; Auditor, Mrs. Harold Vincent. Mrs. Taylor congratulated the new officers and gave an interest­ ing, inspirational address on high­ lights of Women’s Institute work and its purpose. Belgrave W.I. was formed in 1911 and information has been saved and compiled in the Tweedsmuir Books ever since. This information is available for use to anyone in the community. The next meeting will be a dessert luncheon at 7 p.m. on May 17 with Eleanor Wood from Troy as guest speaker. The meeting adjourned and a delicious lunch was served by Mrs. Leonard James and Mrs. Garner Nicholson. People around Belgrave On Saturday. April 23, Mrs. Clare Van Camp, Mrs. Ivy Cloa- kev, Mrs. Jean Pattison, Miss Margaret Higgins, Mrs. Laura Johnston, Mrs. Helen Martin, Mrs. Agnes Bieman, Mrs. Olive Bolt, Wilfred Walker, Howard Walker, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon McBurney and Mrs. Beth Procter journeyed by bus to Kitchener where they enjoyed a Scottish smorgasbord meal followed by a lengthy Highland Program of bag pipes, dancing, songs and jovial entertainment. All reported a good day’s fun. The Annual Pancake Supper, sponsored by the Stewards of Knox United Church, Belgrave, was held on Thursday, April 21. The meal which was provided in the church schoolroom was again a real success. Mrs. Richard Moore spent a few days recently with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Liebrock of Leamington. Mr. Jack Taylor returned home last Wednesday, April 20 after visiting with his son Dr. Ronald Taylor at St. John’s, Newfound­ land. Mr. and Mrs. Elston Speiran of RR 2, Brussels, visited on Sunday evening with their cousins Mr. and Mrs. Bert Johnston. Miss April Moore of Stratford visited with her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Wightman one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Chapman, Colleen and Greg of Bolton visited on Saturday with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Wightman. Carissa McLennan of Listowel spent the weekend with her grandparents Mr. and Mrs. George Michie. A capacity crowd of well wishers gathered at the W.I. Hall, Bel­ grave on April 22 to honour Mr. and Mrs. Rob Nicholson on their recent marriage. Following a game of euchre, Lloyd Michie called the happy couple forward. Lloyd con­ veyed the best wishes of friends, neighbours and relatives and presented them with a box of money, gifts and cards. Both Judy and Rob replied fittingly. A bountiful lunch was served by neighbours as a social time was enjoyed. Mrs. Dorothy Telfer of Weston spent a few days with Mrs. Sarah Anderson. Caroline Hatfield and Nicola Walsh of Yorkshire, England met Christopher Procter in Australia. Hetold them if they were ever in Ontario to be sure and look up his parents Mr. and Mrs. Ross Procter, RR 5, Brussels. The girls spent a few days with the Procter’s and all attended the Pancake Supper in Knox United Church, Belgrave on Thursday, April 21.
