Opening of McKillop shed cause for celebration Plans for the opening of the McKillop township garage were among the items dealt with by the township council when it met in Winthrop April 5. Township passed a resolution to authorize Reeve Marie Hicknell to apply for a special occasion liquor license for the opening celebration on May 28. Council also received a letter from Huron-Bruce M.P. Murray Cardiff acknowledging receipt of an invitation toattend the opening. The council reviewed the recom mendations contained in the report of the Advisory Committee on Trash fire scares firemen Smoke in the Queen Villa apartments project on Queen Street, Blyth gave Blyth firemen two hours of detective work Wednesday before they were finally able to locate the cause. The upstairs of the apartment building was filled with smoke and firemen spent the first part of their search trying to locate its source. They had to forcibly enter one apartment where the resident wasn’t home to see if the fire was there. Firemen checked all possi ble sources from wiring to heating ducts, Chief Irvin Bowes said, before finally finding out the smoke had come up through ducts from a lower floor apartment where a resident had had a trash fire. The resident had putoutthefire and concealed evidence by hiding the burned garbage bags in a closet. There was no real damage to the building.
