ALL VISITORS WELCOME Arena needs to be discussed by area groups at May 2 Local Blyth service groups have been invited to a meeting May 2 to discuss future capital needs at the Blyth and District Community Centre. Many of the major machines in the centre’s ice-making plant are aging and major repairs could be needed at any time. In order to try to keep these unexpected repairs off the tax bills of the various municipalities that support the arena, community groups are being asked if they can help. The shopping list for the arena includes: •The condenser, now 22 years old although the life expectancy for such equip mentis 20 years. The cost of replacement is $12,000 to $15,000. •The compressor, again 22 years old with a 20-year life-expec tancy. It will cost $16,000 to $18,000 to replace. •Water pump of the condenser, rebuilt six years ago with a six-year life expectancy. The cost of replacement is $400. •Headers, 22 years old, two meeting years beyond the life expectancy, they must be fixed this spring. The cost is $2,500. •The brine pump, again two years beyond its life expectancy with a replacement cost of $2,000. •Work that must be done this spring in addition to the header replacement is installation of a new seal on the compressor at a cost of $800 plus labour. For several years there has been talk of the need to sandblast and repaint the beams in the arena. The estimated cost is $30,000.
