Brussels Stockyards Holyrood steer brings $107.50 at Friday's sale The market at Brussels Stock- yards met a very active demand with choice steers and heifers selling $1 to $2 higher. Cows and pigs traded steady. There were 802 cattle, 688 pigs and 58 sheep and lambs on offer. Choice steers sold at $94 to $99 with sales to $107.50; good steers brought $91 to $94. A steer consigned by Lome Eadie of RR 1, Holyrood, weighing 1370lbs., soldfor$107.50, and was purchased by Ken O’Neil of St. Thomas, while his total offering of 17steers, averaging 1264 lbs., sold for an overall price of $98.35. A steer consigned by Maple Emblem Farms of RR 1, Dungann­ on, weighing 1210 lbs., sold for $104.50 with their total lot of 14 steers, averaging 1141 lbs., selling foranaveragepriceof$96.24. Four gold steers consigned by Bill Vandyke of RR 7, Lucknow, averaging 1145 lbs., sold for $100.10, with his total offering of nine steers, averaging 1161 lbs., selling for an overall price of $97.14. Fifteen steers consigned by Larry Elston of RR 4, Wingham, averaging 1109 lbs., sold for an average price of $96.37 with sales to $100. Twenty-three steers con­ signed by Lome Forster of RR 1, Lucknow, averaging 1298 lbs., sold for an overall price of $97.64 with sales to $99.35. Two red steers consigned by Kalvin Fischer of RR 1, Bluevale, averaging 1235 lbs., sold for $98.60. Two steers consigned by Ham­ mond Bros, of RR 1, Monkton, averaging 1045 lbs., sold for $96.75. Thirty steers consigned by Glen Johnston of RR 2, Bluevale, averaging 1218 lbs., sold for an average price of $94.44, with sales to $97.25. A white steer consigned by Wilbert McLellan of RR 5, Mount Forest, weighing 1220 lbs., sold for $97.75 with his total offering of 11 steers averaging 1147 lbs., selling for an overall price of $92.85. Six steers consign­ ed by Maurice Hallahan of RR 1, Belgrave, averaging 1252 lbs., sold for $96.18 with sales to $99.25. Choice exotic heifers brought $94 to$98 with sales to $101.50; good heifers fetched $91 to $94. A red white-faced heifer con­ signed by George Blake of RR 2, Brussels, weighing 1080 lbs., sold for $101.50, and was purchased by Star Brand Packers of Binbrook, while his total offering of 13 heifers averaged 1023 lbs., and sold for an overall price of $95.52. A Hereford heifer consigned by Jack Higgins of RR5, Brussels, weighing 1180 lbs., sold for $98, with his total lot of 13 heifers, averaging 1102 lbs., selling for an average price of $87.10. Six heifers consigned by Wilhelm Bros., of RR 4, Walkerton, averaging 1045lbs., sold for an average price of $95.42 with sales to $97.25. A heifer consigned by Ian Johnston of RR 2, Bluevale, weighing 1140 lbs., sold for $96.75. Bodmin Ltd., at RR 5, Brussels, has operated its own private ROP test station since 1968, one of the few farms in the province to do so. The best bulls in the group will be on view throughout the day Saturday, with buyers expected from across a wide area. The Hallrice Dairy Calf Club held an organizational meeting on March 31 at Christine Hallahans. The leaders for 1988 Hallrice Dairy Calf Club are John Franken and Ken Ramsey. During the meeting members heldan election of officers. The new president for Hallrice is Laura Hallahan. Vice-President is Mike Pentland. Secretary is Theresa Knox. Treasurer is Arthur Bos and the press reporters are Melanie Knox, Donna Lynn Armstrong and Shannon Hallahan. The next meet­ ing is on April 20 at 8 p.m. at Mike Pentlands.
