Phone 887-6677 'Creation in Crisis' discussed at Walton UCW Thankoffering Guests from surrounding churches were present for the U.C.W. Thankoffering service at Duff’s United Church, Sunday evening. Greeters at the door were Berva Watson, Margery Ritchie, Kathleen Williamson and Elva Bolger. Welcome was given by Olene Dennis who conducted the service. “For the beauty of the earth” was sung with Margery Huether the organist followed by Dorothy Sholdice giving prayer. Special music was given by Margaret Shortreed, Mary Douma and Peggy Aitchison accompanied by Karen Cardiff as pianist. The scripture reading was from Genesis, Chapter 22: 22-32 with Dorothy Sholdice, Marion Godkin and Olene Dennis taking part followed by a meditation “Chris­ tian Life” read by Marion Godkin. Dorothy said prayer. The offering was received and dedicated. The men’s choir from Melville Presbyterian Church Brussels, contributed a couple of numbers. Taking part were Murray Huether, People around Walton Mr. and Mrs. Derek Deane, Barrie were Friday evening supper guests with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Huether. Mr. and Mrs. Brian Pryce and family, Winthrop and Tracey Salverda, Londesboro, spent Eas­ ter Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Marks and Blaine. Mrs. Allan McCall and Mrs. Bev Stevenson attended the shower for Rhonda Carrie of Orangeville on Sunday afternoon at Bluevale Hall. Rhonda is the daughter of John and Gail Currie formerly of Brussels. Mr. and Mrs. John Thamer, London and RuthieThamer, Kitch­ ener, spent the weekend with their mother, Ruth Thamer. We are glad to report Ruth is feeling much better after her five-day stay in Seaforth Hospital recently. Sports club plans barbecue The monthly meeting was held on April 4 at Evelyn Blake’s. A good profit was made from the annual poker rally. It was decided tohaveabarbecueon Aug. 19at the park in conjunction with the Institute’s Hall’s 50th year to commemorate the hall being moved to its present location. The booth is to be cleaned on April 16 at the same time ball registration is to be held at the library from 11 - 2 p.m. The Squirt girls are to get new blue uniforms this year. A grant from McKillopTwp. was received. A representative from the Sports Club will approach Morris and Grey Township for a grant. The next meeting is on May 2 at 8 p.m. at the home of Betty McCallum. Kang Yoon, Bill King, Jim Mair, Gerald Gibson and Ken Shortreed. Marie McGavin introduced the guest speaker, Rev. Neil Lackey of London Conference’s Rural Life Committee who has been in Milverton for the past four-and-a- half years. Rev. Lackey spoke on “Creation in Crisis, Joy for God’s Creation.’’ Rev. Lackey closed this part with the congregation joining in sing­ ing, “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee’’. Kathleen Williamson gave courtesy remarks. Olene Dennis announced the closing hymn and prayer. Rev. Bonnie Lamble gave the Benedic­ tion. Everyone was invited to the basement where refreshments and a social time was enjoyed. Huron-Middlesex MP Murray Cardiff was on hand last Thursday to cut the ribbon officially opening the new 600 tonne fertilizer blending facility at the Walton plant at Cook’s [Division of Gerbro [1987] Inc.], while the company’s chief executive officer Bill Harvey [right] from the head office in Hensail, and Walton branch manager Brad Ford look on.
