Young inventors to show ideas at Fair Young inventors from across Huron County will meet in Clinton April 16 for the Huron County Regional Science Fair. The fair, to be held at the Clinton Legion, is organized by local volunteers and sanctioned by the Youth Science Foundation (YSF). A charitable, non-profit organ ization, the YSF sponsors more than 90 regional science fairs which span the country, from Wabush, Labrador in the East, to Victoria, British Columbia in the West and Yellowknife, Northwest Territories in the North. One of the most coveted prizes is the Suncor Energy Award, which entitles the winner to travel all-expenses paid to a week-long national Youth Symposium on Invention in Toronto. The program combines challenging ideas, “hands-on” science and oppor tunities to meet like-minded stu dents from all over Canada. Other prizes include cash awards and trips to the Canada Wide Science Fair. The students’ projects will be on display to the public at a time to be announced. “Each and every one of us today is the beneficiary of literally millions of inventions and innova tions,” said Tom Thomson, Presi dent and Chief Executive Officer of Suncor Inc. Thomson noted that, “Despite our small population, Canadians have been remarkably productive inventors. We hope the sympos iumwill help the students learn something of our inventive heri tage and encourage them to apply their talents to the challenges we face today and in the future.” 2 accidents near Belgrave County Road 20 just west of Belgrave was the scene of two separate automobile accidents in late March, both of which sent a person to hospital. According to a spokesman for the Wingham detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, Linda Campbell ofRR 1, Belgrave was eastbound on the county road Sunday morning, March 27, when she lost control of her car in heavy slush, causing it to slide into the ditch. Mrs. Campbell was not injured, buther nine-year-old son, Mat thew, was taken by private auto mobile to Wingham and District Hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries and released, police say. Damage to the Campbell vehicle was listed as severe. In a separate incident in the late evening of March 21, Harold Marr of RR5, Wingham, was injured in a second single-car accident on the same stretch of road, police report. The OPP say that Mr. Marr was eastbound when he apparently fell asleep at the wheel of his car, crossed the road to strike the northwestendofthe bridge and slid into Belgrave creek. Hullett Central School News The Grade two class has been very green recently with green stories. They illustrated crazy sentences with their grade8 partners, and then traded pictures with them. Special mention goes to these grade8’swho were particularly helpful with their written com ments and encouragement last term: Stan McDougal, Michelle Beuermann, Brent Howatt, Julia de Jong, Rob Finch, Sara Lyons, Michelle Dillon, Ian Andrews, Christie Bricker and Melanie Knox. Inventors from across North America will help the students create inventions which fulfil real needs. These are individuals who have made successful careers out of inventing items such as the hourglass-shaped diaper and microwave cookware. Suncor is one of Canada’s major integrated oil and gas companies. This is the eighth year that Suncor has sponsored the Youth Sympos- ium Program. Each symposium is designed to create a unique educational experience, inspire and reward science excellence and involve tomorrow’s leaders in the debate on current issues. Past Symposium topics include artifi cial intelligence, toxic waste man agement, energy planning for developing countries, laser appli cations, satellite design and man aging Canada’s water.
