Over the years he also taught at schools throughout Huron county, the old Blyth Continuation School for 18 years and for 14 years in Clinton. He retired in 1960 after 44 years of teaching. For several years he continued to work in summers as a bookkeeperforGeorge Radford Construction in Blyth. He was active in the community, being a charter member of the Blyth Lions Club, a member of the Masonic Lodge and for many years taught Sunday School at Blyth United Church. He was an honour- ary member of the Blyth and Clinton Bowling Leagues. He was predeceased in 1979 by his wife Elma whom he had married in July 1922. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held from the Tasker Funeral Home, Blyth on Saturday, April 2, 1988. Interment was in Clinton Union Cemetery. He was in his 92nd year. He was born on the family farm on Highway 4 just south of Blyth, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Garrett and never went too far from home except to take his teachers’ training at the Faculty of Education in Toronto. She was the dear sister-in-law of Howard Wilkinson; aunt of Charles Wilkinson of MorrisTown- ship; Clayton and Mary Wilkinson of Kitchener and Mrs. Gordon W. (Abbie) Wilkinson of Smithville. She is also survived by three great-nieces; two great-nephews; one great-great-nephew. She was predeceasedby hersister, Cora Wilkinson (1958); her nephew, Gordon W. Wilkinson (1985) and one great-niece. Friends may call at The McBurney Funeral Home, Wingham, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral service was held from the McBur­ ney Funeral Home, Wingham, Wednesday with Rev. Gerald McFarlane officiating. Interment followed in Wingham Cemetery. To celebrate Nurses’ Week the nurses of Huron County are sponsoring a story writing contest for public school children. For Kindergaten to Grade Four the topic is “What I think a nurse does’’ and should be 50 words or less. The topic for Grades Five to Eight is: “What makes a good nurse’ ’ and should be 100 words or less. There will be three prizes for each category.
