Brussels Curling Club presents trophies Gerald Knight, left, treasurer of the Brussels Junior Curling Club, presented the trophy to the overall winners of Junior Curling to Craig Workman [skip] and Barb Alexander [2nd]. Absent were Brent Evans [vice] and Darren Bauer [lead]. The rink was also first In the first draw. The Brussels Curling Club held its annual banquet and dance on April 2 at the Legion. A roast beef dinner was catered by the Legion ladies which was followed by the annual meeting and the awarding of the prizes. The new executive for the 1988-89 season was announced. They are: past president - Gord Mitchell; president - Doug Shol- dice; first vice-president - Orval Bauer; second vice-president - Pauline Patterson; secretary-trea­ surer - Nancy Exel; bonspiel committee - Ernie Lewington, Stewart Steiss; draw committee - Brian Warwick, Joyce Alexander, Marg Taylor, Darlene Oldfield; bar committee - Ross Veitch, Brad Speiran, Bob Alexander; ice com­ mittee - Bob Alexander, Don Bray; prize committee - Ron Clarkson, Nora Stephenson; press reporter - Velma Locking; auditor - Mary Huether. Gerald Knight presented the trophies and prizes to the junior curlers: first draw: first place - Craig Workman, Brent Evans, Barbara Alexander and Darren Bauer; second place - Chris Smith, Brian Alexander, Will Perrie and Roger Evans; third place - Kelly Bauer, Steven Steiss, and Rich Veitch; fourth place - Gary Martin, Mark Pennington and Rob Veitch; second draw: first place - Kelly Bauer, Barbara Alexander, Roger Evans and Darren Bauer; second place - Michael Alexander, Rob Veitch and Wayne Alexander. The Jack Bryans Trophy was awarded to the team of Craig Workman, Brent Evans, Barbara Alexander and Darren Bauer. Velma Locking presented the Walter Scott Memorial Trophy to the overall winners of the Tuesday afternoon Ladies Curling. They were Fran Bremner, Jean Bewley, Valerie Shortreed and Linda Saur. Doug Sholdice and Gord Mit­ chell then presented the prizes to the winners of the mixed curling. November draw: first 47 points - Brad Speiran, Nora Stephenson, Bill Patterson and Ralph Watson; second 46.5 points - Howard Hackwell, Joyce Alexander, Andy Ives Doris Mitchler; third 44 points - Ross Veitch, Madelene Steiss, Tom Warwick and Bill Pearson. January draw: frist 49 points - Bob Alexander, Velma Locking, Andy Ives and Valerie Shortreed; second 45 points - Ross Veitch, Pauline Patterson, Murray Bone, and Nora Stephenson; third 36 points - Orval Bruce, Marg Taylor, Peter Exel and Dorothy Kelly. February draw: first 42.5 points - Murray Huether, Joyce Alexan­ der, Peter Exel and Valerie Shortreed; second 42 points - Brad Speiran, Annette Lewington, Jim Patterson and Valerie Watson; third 40.5 points - Tom Warwick, Nancy Exel, Murray Bone and Janis McEwan. The D.A. Rann Trophy was presented by Orval Bauer to the Overall teamof Bob Alexander, Velma Locking, Andy Ives and Valerie Shortreed. Door prizes of fresh flower arrangements were won by Gerald Knight, Trish Clarkson, Peter Exel, Ruth Veitch and Doug Sholdice. Next year will be the 25th anniversary of the club. Different ideas were discussed on how to celebrate in some special way. One idea was to have an open jitney­ type bonspiel with a dance after­ ward. Past president Velma Locking [left] presented the Walter Scott Memorial trophy to Fran Bremner [skip], Linda Saur [lead] and Valerie Shortreed [2nd], the overall winners of the ladies’ Tuesday afternoon curling. Missing was Vice Jean Bewley. Prizes for winning first place in the February draw went to [from left] Valerie Shortreed [lead], Joyce Alexander [vice], Pete Exel [2nd] and Murray Huether [skip]. Despite being tripped Jason Rutledge of the Blyth Novices still gets a shot away during the WO AA Novice championship final in Blyth Friday night. Best efforts like this just weren’t enough as a stout defence by Drayton gave Blyth a 2-0 loss in the deciding game of the series. HULLETT TWP. There will be no late registration accepted due to team scheduling. Playhouse brochure coming Huron Country Playhouse 1988 Brochure will be available for mailing in early May. The Brochure itself is right in the midst of production and the staff, Board of Directors, Members, Subscribers and all other avid theatre goers are very anxious to see the 1988 Playbill on paper. The brochure will be inserted in the May 7 edition of The London Free Press.
