Phone 887-6645 Pam Engel honoured by friends at shower Friends, relatives and neigh­ bours gathered at the Community Centre on Thursday night for a bridal shower to honour Pam Engel. Lois Hartand Nancy Vanass conducted a game and gave readings. Sandra Huether read an address and Pam was presented with many useful gifts. She thanked everyone and invited them to their open reception May 14. Beryl Smith and Anne Bragg served lunch. Miss Sharon Engel, London and Mrs. Ron Burdett and Brent, Waterloo, visited their grand­ mother, Mrs. Mac Engel on the Easter weekend. The Canadian Foresters are sponsoring a euchre in the Com­ munity Centre on Friday evening, April 8 at 8:30 p.m. of Brussels, visited Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Smith. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Crawford, Shelburn, were Sunday visitors with Don and Mrs. Cotton. The Cranbrook Women’s Insti­ tute was in charge of the birthday party for the month of March at the Callander Nursing Home, Brus- seis. The Grade five and six classes of Grey Central under the direction of Mrs. Margaret Whitmore enter­ tained with musical numbers and piano solos. The students then took birthday presents to the residents celebrating birthdays in March. Lunch was served by the students and W.I. members. Ethel Compiled by Mrs. Margaret McMahon. Easter Sunday visitors with Gary and Beth were Ken and Georgie Smith of Atwood, Warren and Corinne Smith and family of Cambridge; Beverley and Randy Raycroft and famil, Dale and Trish Smith and family, Jerry, Juanita and Tony Smith, Gayle Smith and family all of Monkton; and Carl, Edith and Jim Ames, of Hamil­ ton. A speedy recovery is wished to Thelma Keffer who is a patient in Wingham Hospital. Also to Jack Bishop who is recovering from recent surgery. Sharron and Jim Dobson recent­ ly spend seven days in Los Vegas with the bowling group from Molesworth. The weather was most favourable. John and Joan Smith and family spent Easter weekend at New­ market visiting with John’s mother who is in hospital. The new 4H outdoors club is beginning and a lot of activities depend on the weather. Here’s hoping it co-operates. Bill and Sandy Clarke from Pickering visited with Pamela and Alvin McLellan and family on Saturday and Sunday. Miss Mary Ellen Knight and her brother Bruce visited in Florida with their parents, Ross and Betty Knight and their grandmother, Mrs. Ellen Knight, who celebrated her 90th birthday March 21. Mr. and Mrs. Carman Smith, Walkerton, and Mrs. Mabel Smith Cranbrook 4-H outdoors dub sees skit On March 28, at the home of Nancy Vanass ofCranbrook, Meet­ ing 2 of the Cranbrook, Outdoor Living 4H club started at 7 p.m. The members started the meet­ ing with the4H pledge and each member answered the Dear Out­ door Enthusiast. Members filled in the blanks in their manual while reading the notes for this meeting. Peter Workman, Angie Williams, Jennifer Vanass, Paula Smith, Stacey Boyd, and John Morton acted out a skit, to show how to establish a campsite. BASKETBALL AT GREY by Darren Hemmingway In the past three weeks, some boys and girls from Grades 7 and 8 have been involved in basketball intramurals during noon hour. There are three girls teams and two boys teams. There are three games in each schedule. The names of the teams are (for the girls: The Best, The Greatest, and The Swishers, andfortheboys: Hell’s Angels, and the other team remains nameless. As of now, the girls’ schedule is completed and the boys have one more game to go. KINDERGARTEN VISITS POST OFFICE by Stacey Boyd On March 22 and 23 the Kindergarten students went to Brussels. They went to the post office, the bakery, the butcher shop. This trip was to teach the Kindergarten’s about the people in our community. At the post office they mailed letters to other students in the class. At the butcher shop they went to the cooler and saw the different meats which were hang­ ing from the racks. They saw a cow s heart, Mr. Thomas slicing the meat and making sausage. At the bakery they watched Mr. and Mrs. Todd making doughnuts and they also learned to slice bread. They took a walking trip round the town. They stopped to see the town and the pharmacist. After the trip we interviewed Mandy Stratton. She liked the treats and the pencil she received. She said she would like another trip only this time to Toronto. ELECTRICITY by K. McGuigan and S. Stewart The grade five class is studying electricity. This is an example of one of their experiments. EQUIPMENT: 9 volt battery a piece of copper wire 44 cm. long light bulb (Xmas tree bulb) 15 volt base First, you wrap the wire around the base of the bulb. After that touch the post on the nine-volt battery. This produced light in the bulb. If we had had a stronger battery we would have had a brighter light. GYMNASTICS by R. Boyd and L. Hemming way In Phys. Ed., the grade six class is doing gymnastics. They are enjoying gymnastics very much. They are doing front rolls, back rolls, tripods, and headstands. They are using the spring board, box horse, and trampet. The gymnastics unit will continue for three weeks at Grey. Tired of the same old Grind ?
