County Engineer Dennis Merr- all estimated that there were about 500 such intersections in the county. He said the cost would be about $40,000 and there was no money for such an item in the budget. The county road committee recommended turning down the Hullett request but giving permis sion to townships to erect signs that meet county standards. Tom Cunningham, reeve of Hullett said he thought the road committee had acted in haste in turning down the request. He had hoped the committee would have come back with a better solution than they had to the problem. Mr. Merrall admitted he has a prejudice in the issues saying “I hate putting up signs and having to keep them up ”. He said he hated to see the waste due to vandalism and the amou nt of time away from other duties that his staff had to spend putting signs back up. He said he would like to see the signs as a municipal project as has already been done in some townships with groups like the Junior Farmers involved in putting up the signs. Still, he said, “I’m willing to do anything you’re willing to pay for.” The majority of council was not willing to pay for the signs however and the Hullett proposal was turned down. Israel. One day while Marty was at the Wailing Wall he wrote a prayer on a small slip of paper and placed it in one of the cracks in the wall. It read: “Dear God, is Jesus real?” Back in Canada in 1981, a friend of Marty’s brought him to a Christian retreat. There he was again confronted with the claims of Christ. This time God answered his prayers. Through a careful study of the Old & New Testaments, Marty saw the fulfillment of the Messian ic promises in Jesus. Mr. Verk participated in the 1985 summer witnessing cam paign in New York City and also in the 1985 Canadian National Exhi bition outreach in Toronto. He is currently active in the creative evangelistic outreach at Canada’s First Branch in Toronto. Jews For Jesus is the largest Jewishmissionagency in North America. Dr. Ralph Winter, Gen eral Director for the U.S. Center for World Mission says, “I consider the Jews For Jesus to be the front-running Board in the world today concerned with the task of evangelizing.” Best known for creative communication techni ques, their one hundred staffers can be found on street corners, campuses, and in other public areas handing out broadside pam phlets, singing Jewish Gospel songs, and presenting Jewish style drama. What they communicatfein thoSe different forms conveys the message that Jews can believe in Jesus and still remain Jews. The emphasis of Jews For Jesus in Canada in the 1980’s will be to put together a highly effective urban mission to Jewish people. Moishe Rosen, the founder of the Jews For Jesus ministry, says, “We are wanting and willing to put inanover-and-above effort, to face fierce opposition, to deal with what seems tobe invincible indiffer ence, and to carry out an evangelis tic ministry which appears to be hopeless at the outset. However, weblieve in an over-and-above God who can perform miracles such as the parting of the Red Sea .. why couldn’t He open up the Jewishcommunity of Canada to the Gospel?” MARCH 31/88 8:00 P.M. ‘ ‘The Glad Son of Easter, That Christ is Risen Today APRIL 3/88 11:00 A.M.
