Londesboro Compiled by June Fothergill Phone 523-4360 16 teenagers confirmed at Londesboro United On Sunday, March 27, Palm Sunday, 16 teenagers confirmed their faith by joining the Londes­ boro United Church. They are Vickie Lou Riley, Loreena Simpson, Shannon Dui- zer, Brent Radford, Kathie Kenn­ edy, Theresa Overboe, Michael Airdrie, Tim Airdrie, Theresa Knox, Paul Jewitt, Murray Whyte, Denise Gross, Lisa Kennedy, and Gerben Wilts. Greeter for the service was Jack Lee. Ushers were Ron Gross, Allan Bosman, Don McGregor and Nick Whyte. The sixth advent candle was lit by Rev. Snihur. It stands for “Friend”. Scripture from Mat­ thew 21, 1-9 was read by Rob Marshall. The choir sang an anthem. “Room at the Cross.” Communion service was held. A Songfest on Sunday evening, April 10 will be held. Joint Good Friday Service at 8 p.m., April 1, at Auburn Church. The Senior Youth Group meets Wednesday, March 29 at 6 p.m. at Vanastra for swimming. There will be a hymn­ sing next Sunday at 11 a.m. The Lifeand Work committee meets Tuesday, March29at Snihurs. The Board meets on Tuesday, April 5. Loonies 4-H dub meets The fifth meeting of the Londes­ boro Loonies was held on March 21 identify the pictures found on the backs of Canadian bills and then at the home of Joanne Camp- schroer. The meeting was opened with the4Hpledgeandbusinesswas discussed. Members decided on a display of foreign currency for the achievement night which is to be held May 3. The roll call was to name a financial institution in Canada. The first part of the meeting was a knowledge testing quiz to identify the monetary unit and exchange rate of different coun­ tries. Types of financial institutions, banking services, safety deposit boxes and different banking ac­ counts were covered. The next topics included information on writing cheques, automated teller machines (ATM), interestrates and how to calculate it. How money can be saved and invested was discussed. People around Londesboro Hullett Central School students from Londesboro were in Toronto to receive their awards for winning the Ministry of Natural Resources annual essay competition recently. The winning team was: [front row, left to right] Randy Shepherd, Sara Lyons, Brent Howatt, Christy Bricker and Melanie Knox. Presenting the awards were [rear] Glen Loates, renowned wildlife artist, George Tough, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Lloyd Burridge, Chairman of the Ontario Provincial Parks Council. Shuffleboard was held at Hullett Central School on Wednesday evening. The winner was Helen Lee. Friends and neighbours of Mr. Arie Duizer will be sorry to hear he is a patient in Clinton Hospital as of Thursday, March 24. He is wished a speedy recovery. Friends and neighbours of Mrs. Elsie Shaddick of Mapleton Man­ or, Seaforth wish her a speedy recover}-. She is a patient in Clinton hospital. The Shobbrook families receiv­ ed word of the death of their cousin Evelyn, widow of the late Stan Shobbrook on March 20 at the home of her daughter Barbara and Robert Joslin of Victoria, B.C. She was in her 85th year. Sympathy of the community is extended to the Shobbrook families. The final topic was a case study: spend it or make it work for you. It involved a 16 year old male teenager inheriting $2,500. He wanted two things: a car and money for college. He has to make thechoiceofeithersavingit for college or spending it on the car. Advantages and disadvantages of each option and other factors involved were discussed but no decision was required. The home activity was for each member to pretend that they had received $2,500 and to outline some options to use it based on needs and wants. Everyone was to include thiee ways it could be invested and make a choice based on estimated returns. The next meeting will be held on Monday, March 28 at Elizabeth Lawsons. There will be a guest speaker.
