Churches combine for service

Mr. and Mrs. Brian Storer,
Adam and Crystal of Kitchener
spent the weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. Clarence Hanna.
Dinner guests at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Roger Bieman and family
of RR 2, Lucknow were Mrs. John
Leppington, Aaron Adams and
Sara of Clinton, and Mrs. Agnes
Bieman, Belgrave, this being the
occasion of Mrs. Bieman’s birth
day.
Amy Mugford of Hespler spent a
few days last week with her friend
Susan Bieman of RR 2, Lucknow.
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Mathers
and Ila of Exeter, Lorrie Mathers of
Oshawa, Suzanne Mathers of
Toronto were Sunday visitors of
Mr. and Mrs. Melville Mathers.
Mr. and Mrs. Americo Arruda
and Michelle of Fergus and Maria
of Toronto spent Thursday with
Mrs. Dorothy logan.
With Rev. John G. Roberts away
on a holiday a special joint service
of Calvin-Brick and Knox United
Church was held on Sunday
morning, March20 in the Belgrave
United Church.
Members from both congrega
tions participated in the worship
service, with George Procter con
ducting the service. Cathy Dow
took the responsive Psalm. Ivan
Dow read the scripture from
Psalms and Ephesians Chapter 4,
verses 7-16. Mrs. Ross Higgins led
in prayer.
Special music was provided
before and during the service by
Mrs. George McGee, pianist and
Mrs. George Procter, organist.
The Junior choir from Calvin-Brick
sang two songs “The Butterfly
song’’ and “ForThoseTears’’,
accompanied by Mrs. McGee.
The guest speaker was Miss Ann
Slater of Lakeside, who spoke
about her experiences as a volun
teer worker for 15 months at the
Asian Rural Institute in Japan. She
stated that many students came to
the Institute from Third World
Countries to learn how to make a
living off the land.

at euchre
Nine tables were in play at the
weekly euchre which was held in
the W.I. Hall, Belgrave, March 16.
Winners were: high lady, Mrs.
Ross Taylor; low lady, Mrs. Leslie
Vincent; birthday closest to March
17, Mrs. Agnes Bieman; lucky
draw lady, Mrs. Jim (Edythe)
Coultes; high man, Albert Cook;
low man, Mrs. Jim (Matj) Coultes
(playing as a man); birthday
closest to March 17, Wilfred
Walker; lucky draw man, Mrs.
George Michie (playing as a man).
There will be euchre again
Wednesday, March 23 starting at 8
p.m.
While there everyone was ex
pected to pitch in and get involved
in all the chores related to food
production from planting to har
vesting, from feeding livestock to
cleaning out the pens, from
preparing food to washing the
dishes etc. As well as getting along
with other students of different
nationalities and religions. •

Mrs. William Coultes has re
turned home from her exposure
trip to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Congratulations to Steven and
Patti Nixon on the birth of their
baby son, Kyle Steven on Monday,

Mrs. Larry Kearns and Steyen
and her sister Mrs. Vincent Makas
and Alicia of London visited for a
few days with Mrs. Mabel Wheeler

theft of pigs occurred on a farm
located in Turnberry Township,
RR 2, Wingham. Over this

Tara and Erin Johnston of
Ilderton who have been holidaying
with their grandparents Mrs.
Laura Johnston and Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Grasby returned home on
Friday, March 18 accompanied by
their grandparents.
Friends and neighbours of this
community extend sympathy to
Mr. Howard Wilkinson and family
in the loss of a sister-in-law and
aunt Miss Annie Baker.

and 140fathogs were stolen.
Police believe that the pigs were
taken in small groups over a
period of weeks by a person
familiar with the hog operation.
The total value of the pigs stolen
was $19,450.
