Bailie Parrott, seated, was the focus of an unusual ceremony performed last Thursday at the regular meeting of the Lodge of the Independent Order of Oddfellows Western Star #149 of Brussels, when he was presented with his 65 -year jewel, a position few members of the brotherhood ever attain. Eric Mansfield of Hensail, District Deputy Grand Master of Huron District #8 pinned the jewel on Mr. Parrott’s lapel, and also presented him with a framed certificate honoring the event. Now retired and living in Clinton, Mr. Parrottwas born and raised on the 9th of Morris, where he lived and farmed until just a few years ago. He served as reeve of Morris Twp. from 1954 to 1960, held virtually every position on the board of directors of theold Blyth Agricultural Society, and joined the Blyth IOOF Lodge on February 13,1923, where he later attained the rank of District Deputy Grand Master of Huron District #9. He has held continuous membership in the Lodge, transferring to Brussels when Blyth and Brussels amalgamated in 1958. At the age of 93, Mr. Parrott is as sharp as ever, attributing his long life to the fact that he never married and enjoyed his own cooking throughout his entire adult life.
