Renowned farmer, breeder Wilbur Turnbull dies WILBUR EVANS TURNBULL The Brussels area lost a remark- March 7, 1988 of Wilbur-Evans Turnbull of Thomas St., Brussels. >le resident with the passing on He was 91 years of age. -iuronview resident dies PEARL TRESA SQUIRE Pearl Tresa Squire of Huronview died at Huronview on March 9, 1988 following a short illness. She was 69 years of age. She was born in Mt. Brydges and was married twice. Both hus­ bands, Humphrey Graham and Donald Squire, predeceased her. She is survived by one daughter, Shirley, Mrs. Leslie Dale of Blyth and two sons, Bobbie Graham of Vienna and Billie Graham of Centralia. The funeral service was held on Marchll, 1988 from the Tasker Funeral Home, Blyth with Rev. Lorenzo Ramirez officiating. Inter­ ment was in Strathroy cemetery. Former Brussels-area woman dies MRS. MARY GRANT Mrs. Mary Grant of Pine Crest Nursing Home and formerly of RR 3, Brussels died at Stratford General Hospital on March 6, 1988. She was born in Greece 80 years ago and married the late William Grant who predeceased her in 1977. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. EmilyCarras, Hyannis, Massa- chusettes and Mrs. Nina Liak, South Dakota. The funeral service was held March 8, 1988 from the Brussels Chapel of the M.L. Watts Funeral Homes. Rev. Charles Carpentier officiated at the service. Burial was in Brussels Cemetery. Mr. Turnbull and his wife Jennie had marked their 70th wedding anniversary on January 9. Prior to retiring to Brussels the couple had farmed for more than 50 years at lot 11, the 15th concession of Grey township and as breeders of purebred Shorthorn cattle and Yorkshire and Lacombe swine, they amassed a room full of ribbons and trophies. The Ontario govern­ ment presented him with a certifi­ cate of Merit for his contribution to agriculture at the time of the province’s bicentennial. He was given an honorary membership from the Ontario Lacombe Breed­ ers Association in 1971, an honor­ ary membership in the Ontario Swine Breeders Association and an award of merit from the same group. He was an active member of his community and was a charter member of the Brussels Lions Club. He was born in Grey township, the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Turnbull. He married the former Jennie Elizabeth McGavin on January 9, 1918 at the Walton Methodist Church. Mr. Turnbull is survived by two sons, Dr. John Turnbull and his wife Marionof Seaforth and Bill and his wife Marie of Brussels and two daughters, Helen Habkirk of Ingersoll and Dorothy, Mrs. Doug Lawless of Burlington. Also surviv­ ing are 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. One brother, James of Peterborough and one sister, Jean Buchanan of Goderich also survive. He was predeceased by one brother, An­ drew and one grandson, Murray Lawless. The funeral service took place on Wednesday, March 9, 1988 from the Brussels Chapel of the M.L. Watts Funeral Homes with Rev. Charles Carpentier officiating. Interment was in Brussels Ceme­ tery. Serving as pallbearers were Jack Habkirk; Lewis Youngblut, Jim Papple, Donald Murray, Ron Uhler and Jim Fritz. Flowerbear­ ers were Bob Habkirk, Grant Fellowfield, Tim Fritz, Tyler Pap­ ple and Jan Van Vliet. Auburn woman passes ELIZABETH JANE PO STILL Elizabeth Jane Postill of Auburn died March 13, 1988 in Clinton Public Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born Elizabeth Jane Holtzauer, 79 years ago in Hullett township. She was married to Joseph Postill who predeceased her in 1984. She was a member of Auburn United Church. She is survived by six sons and two daughters: Vernon, Exeter; Garth, Clinton; Ronald, Arkona; Betty, Mrs. Dean Fitchett, Thed­ ford; Doris, Mrs. Melville Sim­ mons, Calgary; Graeme, Aidrie, Alberta; Frank of Clinton and Peter of Clinton. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and four great­ grandchildren. The funeral service will be held March 16, 1988 from the Tasker Funeral Home, Blyth with Rev. David Snihur officiating. Pallbear­ ers will be her six sons. Interment will be in Ball’s Cemetery. The Ontario Ministry of Agricul­ ture and Food spends about $35 million annually on research to help farmers produce new and better crops and food products.
