nice pass from the corner of the
rink, from Michael Haggitt.
Michael Ansley scored Blyth’s
third goal set up by David Craig
and Amanda Anderson.
At this point in the game St.
Marys found the mark behind
Blyth’s steady goaltender Michael
Courtney. Corey Shannon started
to fly around the rink, scoring four
goals for Blyth, three unassisted
and one set up by Scott Bromley.
Blyth’s next goal came from
Darryl Bromley on a set-up from
Michael Haggitt. St. Mary’s nett
ed their second and final goal,
before Blyth finished the game
with three more. Jeff Johnston
scored on a rink-long rush, set up
by Michael Ansley. Jason Badley
scored on a break-away set up by
Jeff Johnston. Blyth’s last goal, an
unassisted effort by Darryl Brom
ley gave Darryl a hat-trick and
Blyth all-2 win.
Blyth advanced to the A-side
against Hensail on Sunday morn
ing. The second game displayed
fine goaltending at both ends of the
ice. Scott Bromley earned a
shut-out as Blyth out-worked a
stubborn Hensail team 7-0. At the
three minute mark Michael Court
ney scored Blyth’s first goal on a
long pass by Darryl Bromley.
This goal held up till the second
period when the same two combin
ed again with Darryl Bromley
scoring the goal and Michael
Courtney assisting. Blyth’s next
two goals were unassisted as Corey
Shannon scored on a rink-long rush
and Darryl Bromley surprised the
Hensall goalie on a hard corner
shot.
Blyth’s fifth goal was scored on a
blast from Michael Haggitt set up
by Michael Courtney. Only a
minute later Michael Courtney
scored his second goal of the game
set up by Darryl Bromley. With 35
seconds left in the game Corey
Shannon scored Blyth’s seventh
and last goal on another rink-long
rush. Despite the 7-0 score the
Hensall goalie was great as he
stopped many almost-sure goals.
Blyth’s third game at 5:00
Sunday afternoon brought Blyth
to the semi-finals against Sea
forth. Michael Ansley got the first
goal for Blyth set up by Michael
Courtney but Seaforth soon tied it
up.
Darryl Bromley put Blyth ahead
again in the second period on a pass
from Michael Ansley. Michael
Haggitt found the corner and
scored on some hard work by Jamie
Black.
Darryl Bromley put the game out
of reach with two more goals to
finish his hat-trick, one unassisted,
and the other set up by Chris Carter
and Jason Badley. Michael Court
ney finished the scoring for Blyth
with a goal set up by Darryl
Bromley. Seaforth scored one
more to finish the game but Blyth
had skated hard for a 6-2 win.
This set up the t>A” finals
between Blyth and a strong Zurich
team. Scott Bromley again did the
goaltending for all three games on
Sunday and did a great job.
Blyth was a tired hockey team
playing their third game in seven
hours, but you would have never
known it, as this game was a
barn-burner. Being short in man
power, Blythgave it everything
they had. Zurich scored early in the
game, but Michael Haggitt came
right back with an unassisted
effort. Zurich went ahead 3-1
before Amanda Anderson stole the
puck and put Blyth within one
again. Zurich again took a 2 goal
lead, butBlythscored again, by
Darryl Bromley set up by Jeff
Johston.
Zurich again scored to go ahead
two goals, but again Blyth scored to
keep within one. This time Jason
Badley, blasted the puck home.
Unfortunately Zurich again scored
with only minutes left to retain the
two-goal lead. With about one
minute left Blyth pulled their

The Blyth Atoms opened their
next group playoff series last
Wednesday, March 9 when Mit
chell visited Blyth. After playing to
a 5-5 regulation tie, Blyth outscor-
ed Mitchell 2 -1 in the 10-minute
overtime session as they squeaked
through with a 7-6 win to take a one
game lead in this best of three
series.
Mitchell took a 3-2 first period
lead as Brian McNichol scored
Blyth ’ s first goal, stuffing home his
own rebound after being set up by
Ryan Chamney. Jerrod Button set
up Jamie Bromley for Blyth’s
second goal as Jamie ripped a
rocket from the right wing face off
circle.
Jamie tied the game for Blyth in
the second period on an identical
play as his cannonading drive from
the point ripped the twine behind
the Mitchell net minder.
Mitchell took a 4-3 lead in the
final minute of the period but Blyth
scored two power play goals
leading off the third to take their
first lead of the game. Brian
McNichol tied the game on another
high shot with assists from Jerrod
Button and Jamie Bromley. Mi
chael Bromley got in on the scoring
parade next as he gave Blyth a 5-4
lead after being capably assisted
by Peter Craig.
Some strong Mitchell forecheck
ing resulted in Mitchell tying the
game and sending it into overtime
with less than two minutes left to
play.
Blyth came up with a strong
overtime session to steal the win.
Michael Bromley scored both goals
in OT for Blyth to record his
hat-trick. His first was assisted by
Jerrod Button and Henry Bos while
Jamie Bromley recorded his fourth
point of the game as he assisted on
Michael’s game winner. A two goal
lead looked like it would be enough
but Mitchell came right back with a
goal of their own to make things
interesting as the clock wound
down. The Atoms hung on though
for an exciting 7-6 overtime win as
the fans wildly cheered. Game two
of the series was last night
(Tuesday) in Mitchell, while game
three will be played in Blyth
tonight, if necessary.
Oh what a
feeling!
