Intermediate “A” quarter final action, the Brussels Crusaders jumped into a 2 to 0 series lead with a pair of wins on the weekend over the Durham 72’s. The first game of the series was a seesaw affair. The Crusaders dominated play in the first period, however Durham’s goalie, Scott MacMillan, turned aside rush after rush. With just over three minutes left in the period Kevin Deitner scored with assists going to Ken Cousins and Dave Stephenson. The Crusaders outshot Durham 15 to 9 in the period. Just 20 seconds into the second period Durham tied the score on a powerplay marker. This goal sparked Durham and resulted in end-to-end action. Ken Cousins restored the Crusaders lead a minute later as he converted a pass from Dave Stephenson. The Crusader’s lead was short­ lived as Durham tied the score forty seconds later. Midway through the period Durham took the lead for the first time when they scored a short-handed goal. Brussels tied the score a minute later when Kevin Deitner notched his second of the game from Cousins and Stephenson. With just over four minutes remaining in the period, Durham scored to re-establish a one-goal lead. However, two minutes later Kevin Deitner completed his hat- trick with assists going to Cousins and Mike Watson. During the second period the Crusaders out­ shot Durham 17 to 11. Durham took another one-goal lead six minutes into the third period when they scored another powerplay goal. Two minutes later Brian TenPas tied the score with assists going to Dave Montgomery and Troy Poculuyko. With just over eight minutes remaining, Durham took a 6 to 5 lead. TheCrusaders began to press hard after this point and tied the score with four minutes left when Ken Higgins blasted a shot home from the point with assists going to Montgomery and Pocaluyko. With a minute and a half left in the third period, Troy Pocaluyko gave the Crusaders the lead with assists going to Montgomery and Higgins. Ken Cousins killed any chance of a Durham comeback with an empty-net marker with 30 seconds left in the game. Assists went to Kevin Deitner and Trevor Pocaluyko. The Crusaders outshot Durham 18 to 12 during the period. The line of Cousins, Stephenson and Deitner deserve special men­ tion for combining for 12 points on the night in the Crusaders 8 to 6 victory. OnSundaytheCrusaders tra­ velled to Durham for the second game of the series. The first period was fairly evenly matched with the goalies from both teams called upon to stop several difficult shots. Durham scored the only goal of the period at the 8:40 mark. The Novice Tigers defeat Goderich BY B J AND THE TIGERS The Blyth Novice Tigers met Goderich for a 6 p. m. game in Blyth Wednesday, Feb. 17. Calvin Schmidt did the goaltending. Jeff Cowan scored the first goal of the game for Blyth assisted by Shawn Clark and Greg Blok with only eight seconds remaining in the first period. The second period almost ended with still only one goal when with less than a minute left Greg Toll scored Blyth’s second goal on a break-away. Goderich scored their first goal lessthana minute into the third period. The score was now 2-1 for Crusaders outshot Durham 12 to 10. The second period was a diffe­ rent story as a fired up Crusaders team hit the ice. A minute and a half into the period Dave Mont­ gomery blasted a slapshot home with assists going to Mike Watson and Troy Pocaluyko. This was the beginning of a Crusader scoring spree in which they scored five goals in six minutes. Mike Watson moved in from the point to pick the top corner of the net to give the Crusaders a lead they would never relinquish. Ass­ ists went to Dave Stephenson and Ken Cousins. Less than a minute later Len Stumper slipped into the slot and banged home a pass from Dave Montgomery and Brian Ten Pas. Four minutes later Mike Watson’s slapshot from the point found the far corner of the net and upped the Crusaders lead to 4-1. Dave Montgomery drew an assist on the play. One minute later Hugh Hanley banged in his own rebound to complete the Crusader scoring in the second period. Randy Clarke assisted on the goal. The shots on goal indicated how much Brussels dominated the play as they outshot the 72’s, 19 to 5. The third period was almost a repeat of the second as the Crusaders continued to carry the play to Durham. Penalties played a role early in the period as Brussels scored two plowerplay goals 30 seconds apart. Troy Pocaluyko scored the first one with assists going to Ten Pas and Watson. Mike Watsoncom- pleted his hattrick as he blasted a shot past a weary durham Durham goalie. Assists went to Deitner and Higgins. Durhamforward Marty Well­ wood interrupted the Crusader scoring as he won a face-off and walked in all alone to beat Crusader goalie Mike Smith. Kevin Deitner notched an unassisted marker to up the Crusader lead to 8 - 2. With five minutes left in the game Dave Montgomery complet­ ed the scoring as he banged in a rebound. Assists went to Ten Pas andTroy Pocaluyko. During the period the Crusaders outshot Durham 17 to 5 for a game total of 48 to 20 as they routed Durham 9 to 2. Hats off to Mike Watson for a well-played game with five points and the line of Montgomery, Ten Pas and Pocaluyko who had a 10 point game. Mike Smith played a steady game in goal especially in the first period. The series continues with the Crusaders playing an 8:30 game in Durham on Friday night. The fourth game in the best of seven series will be played in Brussels on Sunday at 8 p.m. A fifth game if necessary will be played in Brussels on Wednesday, March2at8:30p.m. Come out and support your team. 5-2 the Tigers. John Armstrong scored the next goal for Blyth assisted by Jeff Cowan. Greg Toll scored his second u nassisted goal of the game moments later bringing the score to 4-1 for the Tigers. With five minutes remaining in the game Goderich scored their last goal of the game. A minute later Jeff Cowan passed the puck to Ronnie Abel-Rinn, who headed down the ice on a break-away. The Goderich goalie stopped the puck. Shane Burkholder caught the reboundandscoredBlyth’s last goal of the game. The final score was 5-2 for the Blyth Novice Tigers. A good game was played by both teams and enjoyed by the parents. PUBLIC MEETING AFFECTING THE TOWNSHIP OF GREY -TO DETERMINETHE NEED FOR REVISIONSTOTHE GREYTOWNSHIP SECONDARYPLAN -TO CONSIDER APROPOSED OFFICIALPLAN AMENDMENT -TO CONSIDER APROPOSEDZONING BY-LAW TAKE NOTIC E that the Council of the Corporation of the County of Huron and the Council of the Corporation of the Township of Grey will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, April 5,1988 at 8:00 p.m. [persons wishing to discuss items on an individual basis may drop in between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m.] in the Council Chambers [Township Shed] to consider the following: 1. Toallowthe publictocommentonthe need for revisions of the Secondary Plan for the Township of Grey under section 26 of the Planning Act, 1983. The Planning Act requires that municipalities provide the public with the opportunity through a special meeting of Council to comment on the need for revisions to the Secondary Plan. This meeting is an opportunity for persons with comments or suggested changes to make their thoughts known to Council. 2. To consider a proposed official plan amendment under section 17 of the Planning Act, 1983. The proposed plan amendment would update the existing Secondary Plan and includes the following: [a] Agriculture policies dealing with farm viability, agricultural commercial/industrial uses, protection of natural features, separation distances, and lots of record. [b] Urban policies dealing with development standards in the hamlets, commercial and industrial uses, and new maps of the hamlets. [c] Extractive Resource policies dealing with new operations and extractive industrial uses. [d] New policies for Institutional, Heritage Conservation, Community Improvement, and Energy Conservation. [e] Land Division policies dealing with farm viability, lot size, and surplus dwellings in the Extractive Resource designation. [f] Implementation policies dealing with the reduction of the notice requirement for rezoning notices from 30 days to 21 days, and maintenance and occupancy standards. 3. To consider a proposed zoning by-law under Section 34 of the Planning Act, 1983. The proposed by-law would reduce the minimum lot size requirement in the Graham Survey from 1.5 acres to 1 acre, pending the approval of the development standards policies in the above-noted plan amendment. The by-law Would amend zoning by-law 12-1985. ANY PERSON may attend the public meeting and/or make written or verbal representation either in support of or in opposition to the proposed official plan amendment and zoning by-law.
