Chapman, McArter score hat-tricks in win BY LOIS McARTER The Junior Bulls team travelled to Wellesley on Sunday afternoon Blyth Tykes score big win over Huron Park On Saturday, Feb. 20, the Blyth Tykes took to the ice at home with Huron Park being the opposition. Blyth skated away with a 10 to 1 win. Leading the Blyth attack with three goals was Darryl Bromley. Michael Ansley and Amanda Anderson both added a pair of goals and Corey Shannon scored on a good effort. David Craig and Chris Carter both scored their first goals of the season to complete the game. Houseleague Atoms edge Clinton On Saturday, February 19 Blyth hosted a game to the visiting Clinton Atoms. Blyth ’ s Wilfred Datema assisted by Scott Arthur and Aaron Sauve, scored the first goal of the game at 5:22 but Clinton came back to score three minutes later ending the first period 1-1. In the second period Marc Bricker scored assisted by Tim Lyons at the 5:51 mark. The boys played hard going from one end to the other with many good saves by goalie Josh Yanchus with the help of the defensemen. At the end of the second period Blyth was in the lead by one goal. Thirty seconds into the third period Clinton scored and they once again scored at the 11:13 mark taking the lead. The Blyth players were not through playing yet, for one minute later Wilfred Datema scored assisted by Scott Arthur to tie the game. For the next seven minutes both teams played hard, butat the 3:01 mark Blyth’s Shawn Hakkers scored unassisted for the winning goal of this game ending with a score of 4-3 for Blyth. Overall this was a very clean, hard-fought contest with the Blyth boys taking no penalties through the whole game. Midgets win Continued from page 20 Shallow Lake. Tim Walden opened the scoring assisted by Paul Hoggart and Allen Hillis. Just 39 seconds later Dean Whitfield scored assisted by Jason Vander Heyden. Paul Hoggart assisted by AllenHillisand Dean Whitfield rounded out a fine first period with Blyth being ahead by three goals. The second period was more of the same as Dan McDougall asissted by Drew Allen put Blyth ahead by four. Allen Hillis then scored assisted by Paul Hoggart and Jason Vander Heyden. Shallow Lake spoiled Mike Henry’s bid for a shutout as they scored a power-play goal at 3:36 of the second period. Dean Whitfield closed the scoring for Blyth at 7:53 of the third period assisted by Jason Vander Heyden. A major ruckus in the second period caused the game to be delayed for some time and things got a little out of hand on the ice. The referees sent both teams to their change rooms for an early rest so order could be restored. There were a few alterations in the third as well but nothing major develop­ ed . Both teams are looking forward to a good clean hockey game on Thursday, Feb. 25 in Shallow Lake and hopefully things will go better. to play their last regular game of the season and did it on a winning note. Michael Courtney lead in the assists, with two and singles going to Darryl Bromley and Chris Carter. Huron Park’s lone goal was scored by Matt Regier on a break away to spoil Jason Badley’s possible shut out. Next Saturday there will be a re-match in Huron Park at 11:00. Defenceman Bill Haines opened the scoring just two minutes into thegameona power play attack from team mates Kevin McArter and Tim Fritz. Bill Kerr added the second goal two minutes later assisted by Kevin McArter. Play continued until there was just 1:08 left in the period and Mike Chapman scored from Tim Fritz and Bill Haines giving the Bulls a 3-0 lead at the end of the first period. Kevin McArter scored from Bill Haines and Mike Chapman for a power play goal three minutes into the second period and then Wellesley came to life as penalties kept the Bulls short-handed. Wellesley scored four unan­ swered goals to tie the score and then with 1:21 left on the clock Kevin McArter scored a short- handed goal from linemate Mike Vincenttogive Brussels a one-goal lead at the end of the second period of play. The teams had played 4:41 of the third period when Kevin McArter completed his hat-trick from Tim FritzandKevinLee. Atthe6:26 mark Tim Fritz scored a power play goal from Greg Crummer and Kevin McArter. In less than a minute Kevin Lee scored from Mike Chapman. Wellesley scored the next two goals making the score 8-6 in the Bulls’ favour. Mike Chapman scored a power play goal at 14:50 from Tim Fritz and Ron Strome. Chapman scored an empty net goal at 16:33 from Tim Fritz and Bill Haines. Mike Chapman then completed his hat-trick with 49 seconds left in the game from linemates Tim Fritz and Kevin McArter to give the Bulls a sound 11-6 victory. Shots on net were equa^with the Wellesley goalie having 24 shots on net while Bull’s goalie Jeff McGavin had 23 shots to contend with. The Wellesley-Exeter game was notplayed on Saturday evening because of stormy weather and has been re-scheduled for this Satur­ day night. I| is expected at press time that Brussels will be in Wellesley on Sunday for the first game of the playoffs, but game time was not available as yet. Mitchell and Exeter will be playing in the other series.
