East Wawanosh Public School News PUBLIC SPEAKING CONTEST The Public Speaking Contest for East Wawanosh Public School was held in the school auditorium on Tuesday, February 16. A number of visitors were in attendance as well as Grades 2 - 8. Mr. Scott thanked the parents for their support and help at home. Mrs. Simpson, Mr. Harrison, and Mr. Kerr were also thanked for their time and effort. Mr. Scott indicated that the contest was a great opportunity for students to express themselves in public. Not only does the speech require research and organization but it also provides the rest of the students with entertaining infor mation about the hobbies and interests of the speakers. The judges were Mrs. Marg Walsh (a former teacher), Mrs. Sally Leitch (Blyth Theatre), and Mr. Scott Pettigrew (CKNX). Mrs. Walsh spoke on behalf of the judges and provided some sugges tions for the speakers. The judges were thanked and received a small memento as a token of apprecia tion. The following is a list of the Blyth Atoms get act together Continued from page 17 with six goals as he more than made up for the lackadaisical play and attitude of the rest of the Blyth team. The second game of the series was cancelled last Saturday and played on Sunday, February 21 in Zurich. A better effort by the entire team was necessary as Zurich showed that they are a much improved team from the beginning of the season. A better effort is what the fans got as Blyth played a solid game from the goal crease on out as they passed their way to a 6-0 whitewash. Brian McNichol continued his wizardy as he opened the game scoring in the first period with an assist from Ryan Chamney. Blyth increased their Ieadto3-0in the second period as Michael Bromley scored an unassisted goal on a fine rush ano Ryan Chamney finished off an excellent pin point passing effort from linemates Jerrod But ton and Michael Bromley. The onslaught continued into the third stanza as the Blyth effort was unmatched by their weary opponents. Michael Bromley notched his second goal of the night on another exceptional solo effort. Jerrod Button finished the scoring late in the game as he counted two power play markers. With the defence pinching in at the blueline and the forwards passing at will in the offensive zone, the Atoms made the execu tion of their skills look easy. Ryan Chamney and Michael Bromley assisted on Jerrod Button’s first power play goal while Brian McNichol and Ryan Chamney asissted on the final goal of the game as Blyth prevailed 6-0. This was a complete turn around fromthefirstgame as Chris Lee and Michael de Jong turned aside all the shots on net while defence men Peter Craig, Jonathan Collins and Jamie Bromley made the necessary defensive plays and started the offensive rushes. The smooth skating forwards finished the plays with both accurate passing and shooting as Blyth played their best game in some time. speakers and their topics: Grade 4, Trevor Beck (winners), Forests; Manual Hussey, My Dog - Boopy; Kim Leishman, Being an Author.
