Church volunteers Blyth students create new games to show slides of trip “OLYMPICS” BY JOHN RAMIREZ AND STEPHANIE LENTZ Following the Board Game Olympics on January 29, the Grade 5 and 6 classes have been working on making their own board games. The pupils’ projects were judged on Friday, Feb. 12. The winners were: John Ramirez, grade 6; Thomas Schroecker, grade 6; Jodee Medd, grade 5. These lucky students proceeded to Vanastra P.S. on the 17th and 18th of this week. There they spent the first day “showing off” their own game and playing the games of the other 21 students from 5 other local schools who also participated. BUSY AS BEES BY ERICA CLARK AND KIMBERLEY FERGUSON This week has been a very busy time at Blyth P.S. Kindergarten, grades 1, 2 and 3 have had Valentine’sparties. On Friday, children at B.P.S. went skating. The primary grades were on the ice at 1:30 p.m. while the seniors were on at 2 p.m. Friday was also “Red Day” and Hot Dog Day. For Red Day, the students were to try to wear as many red pieces of clothing as they could. Grade 3 hosted Hot Dog Day. Thanks to Mrs. Kolkman and Mrs. Walsh for their work and to the parents for providing the Grow w/Yh 4-H programs delicious desserts. JAPANESEART BY KRISTY CALDWELL AND RHONDA GIBBONS Rev. Lorenzo Ramirez, minister at Blyth United Church and Mrs. Ramirez, helped grades 3 and 4 makeOrigami paperbirds thatflap their wings when you pull the tail. Mr. Ramirez told us that Ori­ gami means “paper folding’ ’ in the Japanese language. The most important thing about Origami is that you must crease the paper very well. The students would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Ramirez for taking the time to show us how to do Origami. The group of twelve volunteers from the Blyih Christian Reformed Church, who have just returned from a two week “working holi­ day" in the Dominican Republic, have put together a slide show and presentation which will be shown at8p.m. onFriday, February 26, at the Blyth CRC Church. The volunteers, from Blyth, Auburn, Westfield, Brussels and Londesboro worked with a Cana­ dian missionary in the tiny island nation of the West Indies to construct two new churches for the local Haitian cane-cutters, using just $5,500 raised by their church since last May. Everyone is welcome to attend the presentation.
