“OLYMPICS”
BY JOHN RAMIREZ AND
STEPHANIE LENTZ
Following the Board Game
Olympics on January 29, the Grade
5 and 6 classes have been working
on making their own board games.
The pupils’ projects were judged
on Friday, Feb. 12. The winners
were: John Ramirez, grade 6;
Thomas Schroecker, grade 6;
Jodee Medd, grade 5.
These lucky students proceeded
to Vanastra P.S. on the 17th and
18th of this week. There they spent
the first day “showing off” their
own game and playing the games
of the other 21 students from 5
other local schools who also
participated.
BUSY AS BEES
BY ERICA CLARK AND
KIMBERLEY FERGUSON
This week has been a very busy
time at Blyth P.S. Kindergarten,
grades 1, 2 and 3 have had
Valentine’sparties. On Friday,
children at B.P.S. went skating.
The primary grades were on the ice
at 1:30 p.m. while the seniors were
on at 2 p.m.
Friday was also “Red Day” and
Hot Dog Day. For Red Day, the
students were to try to wear as
many red pieces of clothing as they
could. Grade 3 hosted Hot Dog
Day. Thanks to Mrs. Kolkman and
Mrs. Walsh for their work and to
the parents for providing the
Grow w/Yh 4-H programs
delicious desserts.
JAPANESEART
BY KRISTY CALDWELL AND
RHONDA GIBBONS
Rev. Lorenzo Ramirez, minister
at Blyth United Church and Mrs.
Ramirez, helped grades 3 and 4
makeOrigami paperbirds thatflap
their wings when you pull the tail.
Mr. Ramirez told us that Ori
gami means “paper folding’ ’ in the
Japanese language. The most
important thing about Origami is
that you must crease the paper very
well.
The students would like to thank
Mr. and Mrs. Ramirez for taking
the time to show us how to do
Origami.
The group of twelve volunteers
from the Blyih Christian Reformed
Church, who have just returned
from a two week “working holi
day" in the Dominican Republic,
have put together a slide show and
presentation which will be shown
at8p.m. onFriday, February 26, at
the Blyth CRC Church.
The volunteers, from Blyth,
Auburn, Westfield, Brussels and
Londesboro worked with a Cana
dian missionary in the tiny island
nation of the West Indies to
construct two new churches for the
local Haitian cane-cutters, using
just $5,500 raised by their church
since last May.
Everyone is welcome to attend
the presentation.
Did You Know That in addition
to the risk of heart disease, cancer,
and emphysema, women smokers
