LORENZO RAMIREZ MINISTER AT BLYTH UNITED CHURCH Lent for me is a Special Season more so important and meaningful than Christmas, because it is not diluted with commercialism and consumerism. It is a time when all those who profess to be Chistians arecalledtoreflectonour Faith and our relationship with God and what God in Christ - Jesus have done for us. Lent is a time of penitence, self-evaluation and exercise self denial . These are words we all have heard of but not known to many for there are very few who take time to dothem. Jesus said “If anyone would come after me, deny yourself, take up your cross daily Craig and David James, both of Toronto. David Craig, R.R. 2, Blyth, was the ring bearer. Following the ceremony, a dinner and reception were held at the Ukraina Country Club. The couple now resides in Lucan. and follow me”. (Luke 9:23). Weliveinaaffluent, extrava gant and wasteful society, even our garbage say so. We have problems of where to dispose them because we produce so much of it. We live as if there is no end to our natural resourses. Ourcountry, Canada, is so vast and we are so blessed with a lot of natural things we can enjoy but if we do not learn to minimize our consumption; we might be forced to really have to deny ourselves of all these things. I know self-denial is not easy; it is not our cup of tea. Today as we are or if we are grateful, let us in this season of lent try to exercise self-denial. It may end up not only do we do good for our community andcountry, wemayfindagood and happy self.
