Scout group plans banquet The Group Committee for the 1st Blyth Scouting Program held its monthly meeting on Monday, February 1, 1988 at the Blyth Public School. Many parents were on hand to offer their support and opinions. Treasurer, Pat Bernard, report­ ed a balance of $703.15. It was moved that all outstanding train­ ing registrations be paid immedi­ ately. A bolt of material was purchased to make scarves. In the section reports Beaver Leader, Sharon Wilson, reported that they had a tour of the Fire Hall and made snowmen in crafts. They will be swimming at Vanastra this week. Lorenzo Ramirez based his sermon on the faith of Job. He said that Job’s life of goodness didn’t prevent him from great suffering. He lost everything, even his family, and suffered great pain, but he didn’t blame God. The Cubs held their Investiture Ceremony on January 26 at which Herb Shannon was invested as a leader and eight boys received their yellow scarves. This was officiated by Janet Cameron, Huron District Commissioner. Special thanks was given to Trish Thomson for making the scarves. The Cubs recently made leather pouches, wrote toan Australian pen-pal and studied some First- Aid. Their Kub-Kar Rally will be held on Feb. 20. Dave Lee helped with the on faith The choir sang, “Go into the world.’’ During Rev. Ramirez conversation with the children he compared play dough with cera­ mics. They sang “Come into my heart Lord Jesus”. Gail King was the leader. Evelyn Caldwell was in charge of the nursery. Next Sunday, Feb. 14 is to be family Sunday with Sunday School members and parents worshipping at 11 a.m. Plans for a skating carnival followed by a pot luck supper at the church on Saturday, February 20 were announced. Ushers were Vera and John Hesselwood, Jeff Howson and Kriss Snell. Greeters were Melda McElroy and Vera Badley. Scout’s Ski-Jam held at Clinton High School on January 30 for 180 boys from as far away as Sarnia. Due to a lack of snow they played volleyball and went swimming at Vanastra. This year’s Church Parade will be on February 21 at Blyth United Church in conjunction with Scout- Guide Week. Guidesand Brownies will also be participating. Dianne Ferguson volunteered to be co-ordinator for the Parent-Son Banquet to be held on February 23 which is also held to celebrate Scout-Guide Week. The Arena Auditorium has been offered to the group free of charge by the Village of Blyth. The evening will begin at 6:30 with the Lions Club free skating followed by the banquet, a short program by the Beavers and Cubs, and a sing-song with Wayne McClinchey. That evening the Social Committee will be having a door prize draw on a full-size Alf. Blyth 1/V/ hosts Auburn ladies The Blyth Women’s Institute met on Thursday, February 4 for a social afternoon. Auburn Women’s Institute were guests. There were nine tables of euchre with Mrs. Evelyn Merrill having high score. There was one table of Scrabble. Numerous other prizesweregiven. A dessert buffet was enjoyed by all. People Kim van Vliet of Toronto and her fiance Steve Tolton, also of Toron­ to, visited over the weekend with Lois and Con van Vliet. Kim is employed at Toronto General Hospital and is taking courses at York University to obtain a Bache­ lor of Science degree. Dorothy Daer was high lady and Jack Blake high man when the Lost Heir party was held at Blyth Memorial Hall Wednesday night. Margaret Nesbit and Edgar Ho- watt had the low scores. Lillian Patterson won the special prize and Clara Rinn won a Valentine special. Visitors the last weekend in January at the Sparling home were son Steven, Jeff Schweiffer, St. Claire, Mich, and West Childs of Tennessee who was looking for­ ward to seeing for the first time snowbanks 10 feet high or more. Instead, West found weather conditions in Blyth that weekend similar to the weather in his home town at this time of year, - lots of rain and green grass. These three gentlemen are students at Wes­ tern University, Kalamazoo, Mich­ igan and are graduating this spring. There were 12 tables of players at the weekly Monday night euchre party at Memorial Hall. Jane McEwing and Alex Nethery had the high scores while Ida Proctor and Len Shobbrook had the lows. Ruth Sheill and Clara Rinn had the mostlone hands. Esther Moffat won the special prize.
