Grants in both areas are being increased, retroactive to January 1, 1987. The previous $100 grant for production records will be increas ed to $5 per sow equivalent, which isequal to one sow or 15 market weight hogs. The maximum grants for finish ing operations will be $200, while farrowing-to-weaner and farrow- to-finish operations will receive from $200 to $500. A one-time grant of $250 for rodent control will now be available every year until 1990, for ongoing rodent control programs carried out by licensed exterminators. The program should help reduce struc tural damage, feed loss and disease in swine herds. OPIIPwasdeveloped to improve the efficiency, productivity and profitability of the Ontario Pork Industry so it can continue to compete on world markets. Afterl4mon ths of operation, the plan had registered 2,668 producers, representing 58 per cent of the 4.4 million hogs marketed in Ontario in 1986.
