McArter gets 6 pts. in tie
BY LOIS McARTER
The Junior D Bulls travelled to
Lucan on Wednesday nightfora
rare mid-week hockey game. They
were minus several of the regular
players but had the lines bolstered
by the midgets.
The team came home on the
losing side of a 6-1 game with Mike
Chapman coming up with the
Bulls’ only goal.
The team returned to Exeter on
Friday night to play the Hawks. It
proved to be a see-saw battle.
The teams had played 7:42 of the
first period when Kevin McArter
finally beat the goalie on passes
from teammates Ron Strome and
Bill Haines as they made their
power play effort pay off. There
was 2:20 left on the clock when

attack to beat goalie Greg McCle

Campbell and Doug Taylor for

and 6:15 on the clock and then just
18 seconds later added their third
unanswered goal in five minutes of

sound 5-2 lead. Jeff McGavin then
replaced goalie Greg McClement
in the Brussels net for the
remainder of the game.

linemates Kevin McArter and Bill
Haines to gain one goal but Exeter
came back a minute later to regain
their three goal lead at 6-3, at the
end of the second period.

during their break as they cam back
strong in the third period. Tim Fritz
and Kevin McArter combined for a
power play goal after 4:16 of the
third period.
Play continuedfor lOminutes
when Tim Fritz scored his second
goal after being set up by Ron
Strome and Kevin McArter. There
was 2:50left on the clock when Ron
Strome scored from Mike Vincent
and Kevin McArter to tie the score
at six.
It only took 30 seconds for Exeter
to catch the Brussels defence out of
position and go in and score on Jeff
with a slap shot, to take the lead
once more.
The Bulls salvaged a tie with just
30 seconds remaining in the game,
when Bill Haines blasted a shot
into the net after receiving a drop
pass from Kevin McArter and Tim
Fritz.

The team was at home on Sunday
afternoon to the visiting Seaforth
Centennaires. They must have
spent all their energies on Friday
night in Exeter because they sure
didn’t have any sparkle in this
game.
Seaforth scored the only goal of
the first period and their second
goal just two minutes into the
second period. It was mid-way
through the period when Mike
Chapman scored unassisted for a
short-handed goal to put the Bulls
on the scoreboard.
Seaforth came back with two
more goals at 5:45 and 3:07 to take a
4-1 lead. Brussels then made a
goalie change putting McGavin in
to replace McClement. Seaforth
added one more goal before the
period ended to hold a 5-1 lead at
the end of the second.
They added one more goal 20
seconds into the third period. Play
continued until the 6:17 mark when
Mike Vincent scored for the Bulls
from Tim Fritz and Kevin McArter.
Aroundthefive minute mark,
the coaches pulled the goalie in
favour of an extra attacker, which
didn’t pay off as Seaforth was
allowed to score an empty net goal
at the 3:30 mark.
The game ended 7-2 in Sea
forth’s favour. The Bulls will
return to Seaforth for a re-schedul
ed game on Tuesday night. They
will be in Mitchell on Friday night
for an 8:30 start. There will be no
home game on Sunday.

Atoms beat Seaforth B's
BY RUSTY BLADES
The Blyth Atoms only had one
exhibition game on the agenda last
week as Seaforth 11 came to Blyth
last Wednesday, January 27.
Blyth controlled the play in the
first period as they built a 3-0 lead.
Henry Bos, who played a few shifts
at left wing, assisted on the first
two Blyth goals as his centremen,
Michael Bromley, finished off both
plays with wicked wrist shots.
Blyth’s third goal of the game was
scored by Ryan Chamney as he
stuffed home a rebound after being
set up by linemates Brian McNich
ol and Christopher Howson.
Blyth built a 4-0 lead early in the
second frame as James McNichol
scored on a goalmouth scramble

assist of the game. Blyth increased
their lead to5-0 with one minute
