Phone 887-9487 New session members elected at Knox meeting The Annual Congregational meeting of Knox United Church, Belgrave was held following lunch after the morning service January 31. Rev. John Roberts opened the meeting with scripture and prayer. George Michie was appointed as secretary for the meeting and read the minutes of the last annual meeting. Lewis Stonehouse gave the treasurer’s report showing a balance on the right side of the ledger. He reported that givings to the Mission and Service fund were down slightly from a year ago. Mrs. James Hunter presented the 1988 budget showing a total of $44,778.56. She also thanked Rev. John and Kay Roberts for their leadership and the congregation and the Board of Stewards for their co-operation in balancing the books for 1987. The three new members to the session were Lome Campbell, Murray Scott and Harold Vincent. Three new members of the Board of Stewards were appointed namely Mrs. George Procter, Robert Grasby and Kenneth Proc­ ter. Ross Anderson was named tothe Board of Trustees. Mrs. Bob Gordon as Sunday School Superin­ tendent reported that attendance and finances were holding up well but they need two more Sunday School teachers. The Annual Country Fayre will be held again on Saturday, June 25. A vote of thanks was given to Rev. John and Kay Roberts and to Mrs. George Procter and her choir for their leadership and support during the past year. Rev. Roberts agreed to supply forms and make an announcement next Sunday about writing to Premier Peterson regarding Sun­ day shopping. Rev. Robert’s clos­ ed the meeting with prayer. Over the week of January 23 Marjorie Procter of London visited with her mother Mrs. Elizabeth Procter of Belgrave, also Mr. Philip Stopforth of London visited at the same home. On their return home to London they were accom­ panied by Mrs. Procterwhospenta few days with her daughter Marjorie Procter. Mrs. Harold Vincent, Mrs. Ross Higgins, Mrs. Ross Anderson, Mrs. Gordon Bosman and Mrs. William Coultes attended the annual meeting of Huron-Perth Presbyterial United Church Wo­ men held in Wesley-Willis United Church, Clinton on Monday, Janu­ ary 25. A petition was signed by all present requesting Premier David Peterson to reconsider his inten­ tion of passing the decision on Sunday shopping down to the local municipalities. He was urged to pass legislation requiring all plac­ es of business to remain closed on Sundays. There will be euchre again Wednesday, February 3 starting at 8 p.m. bonspiel A rink representing the Bel­ grave Kinsmen finished first in the 11 a. m. draw at the fifth annual service club bonspiel hosted by the Wingham Optimist Club on Janu­ ary 23, then topped 11 other service club rinks to take the overall championship. Members of the winning rink were Doug Shiell, skip; Al Bridge, second; Murray Vincent, third; and John Campbell, lead. A rink skipped by Gerry Ed­ wards finished first in the 9 a.m. draw, followed by the Jim Lavery rink in second; the Wayne Hopper rink in third; the Grant Vincent rink in fourth; the Ken Saxton, Sr., rink in fifth; and the Don Bray rink in sixth. Otherwinnersinthe 11 a.m. draw were the Lloyd Michie rink, second; the Barry Simpson rink, third; the Lloyd Casemore and Ron Knight rinks tied for 4th; and the Steve Caslick rink, sixth. Grey Township assistant clerk Rhonda Fischer of RR 3, Brussels, [centre] is one of the first two people to ever have completed the course in Municipal government through the Brussels extension of Conestoga College, taught by present Brussels councillor and former clerk-treasurer Ruth Sauve. Presenting the certificate to Mrs. Fischer at the Grey Township council meeting on Monday were clerk-treasurer Bind Knight and Reeve Leona Armstrong. Gerry Fortune of Turnberry Twp. has also completed the AMCi course through Brussels. evening Members of Knox United Church Choir, Belgrave, held their annual social evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby. Court Whist was played and prizes were awarded to Mrs. Lome Campbell, Mrs. Agnes Bieman, Mrs. Bert Johnston, Ross Ander­ son and Mrs. Laurence Taylor. Lunch was served after which a short meeting was held with Robert Grasby as president, George Procter, secretary treasur­ er. The choir decided to have a dinner on March 17.at 6:30 p.m. in the church school room to raise funds for choir music. day.
