Industrial Committee designing brochure The Brussels, Morris and Grey Industrial Committee is in the process of designing an informa tion brochure to hand out to prospective businesses that might locate in the three municipalities, Brussels Councillor Ruth Sauve reported to council Monday night. Mrs. Sauve has been helping the committee with its work but was officially named the Brussels council representative at the meet- ing Monday. She said the brochure would be a simple three-fold affair and contain, besides a map, information on population, mill rates, the size of the potential workforce, census information, distances to major cities and local wage rates. Councillor Neil McDonald sug gested that information on local services, particularly trades useful for repairing equipment, etc. would be an important addition to the brochure since many compan ies worry about the availability of such services. In her report from the committee Mrs. Sauve said it didn’t appear Brussels, Morris and Grey might be able to take part in the Opportunity Tour of visiting for eign investors sponsored by the provincial government this Sep tember because not a single business had put in a proposal for a need for investment or a joint venture. Inreportingonthe recreation committee, Councillor Betty Gra ber reported that the BMG arena may be getting one of the modern, automatic skate sharpening ma chines. Someone had approached the committee asking for permis sion to install the machine she said and permission had been granted. BARBER Turnberry St. S. [Beside Brussels Auto Sales] OPEN TUES. TOSAT. Local residents have opportunity to wish Kevin Wheeler well at Calgary A Brussels resident, who has asked not to be named, has come up with an excellent idea to show our pride in having nurtured a local figure skater to national and world-class prominence, and to translate that pride into some more practical terms. The anonymous benefactor has suggested that the community send a telegram to Kevin Wheeler of RR 5, Brussels, the fifth best Men’s Senior Pairs figure skater in Canada, and to his partner, Brussels Rebekahs invite Michelle Menzies of Preston, when the couple performs at the gala opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in Calgary on February 13, wishing them well and telling them that we will be seeing them in the Olympics in 1992. Mr. Wheeler and Miss Menzies failed to make the Olympic team this year by failing to win one of the top three places at the Canadian National Figure Skating Cham pionships in Victoria, B.C. January Wingham, Clinton lodges Noble Grand Leona Connelly conducted the regular meeting of Morning Star Rebekah Lodge. There was a good attendance. The Charter was draped in memory of two deceased mem bers: Ethel Long and Rhoda Clare. Correspondence included letters from D.D.P. Bev Broadfoot an nouncing the date of her spring visit March 9 and the date of V. Pres, of Rebekah assembly visit. Brussels Lodge is to go to Goderich April5toopenand close Lodge and help with entertainment. Several thank you cards and donations were also received. It was decided to invite the members of Clinton and Wingham Lodges on March 8. Plans were made for the Feb. 1 euchre. Jean Bridge and Marie McTaggart donated a lovely quilt, tickets to be sold and the draw will be made at a date to be decided later. Birthday honours were given to two mem bers. Cards were signed to be given sick members. After closing lodge a silent auction was conducted by the social committee. Leona Connelly won the travelling prize. A deli cious lunch was served by the lunch committee. Members were re minded of Dessert Euchre on February 15. 20-23, but as senior competitors will have a place in the opening ceremonies. To show our support, the Brussels resident has suggested that any person who would like his or her name added to a telegram to be sent to the pair in Calgary on February 13 could do so by donating $1 (or more) to cover the cost of the telegram, with any money left over being donated to the Preston Figure Skating Club where Mr. Wheeler and Miss Menzies train, to be used toward their ice time. Under therules of amateur sport in Canada, no athlete may receive any direct funding while maintain ing an amateur standing. The anonymous supporter has also suggested that persons sub mitting their names be asked to also write a short message, with the best one being chosen to go on the telegram over what could well become hundreds of names. Jars for names and donations have been set up at Oldfield’s Hardware in Brussels, and at The Citizen’s offices in both Brussels and Bly th. But if you want to be included to cheer one of our very best athletes on, hurry - the telegram will have to be sent by Friday, February 12, in order to reach Kevin and Michelle before they go on the ice to help open the XV Olympic Winter Games.
