Bulls outshoot Wellesley but drop game
THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 27, 1988. PAGE 17.
BY LOIS McARTER
The Bulls have had a lull in their
hockey schedule this past two
weeks, having played their last
league game on Jan. 8. They were
at hom'e to the Wellesley Apple
jacks on Sunday afternoon, in a
good game of hockey.
The first 20 minutes of hockey
was scoreless, with good end-to-
end rushes by both teams with the
visiting goalie making 18 saves
while Jeff McGavin had only three
shots on net.
The teams had played 7:29 of the
second period when Bill Haines
blasted a shot from the blue line
through a maize of players to put
Brussels on the scoreboard first
with their power play attack.
Wellesley returned the attack with
6:05 left on the clock, to tie the
game on a power play effort also.
With 1:31 remaining in the
period, Tim Fritz picked up a
rebound to score a short-handed
goal and gave Brussels a 2-1 lead at
the end of the second period.
The teams had played four
minutes of the third period when
Wellesley scored on a power play to
tie the score. Play continued until
the ll:39markwhen Wellesley
scored to go ahead 3-2.
That lead was short-lived as the
Bulls came back just 30 seconds
iater when Kevin McArter scored
on passes from Mike Chapman and
Tim Fritz and once more tied the
score.
There was 3:14 left on the clock
when the puck was deflected past
goalie McGavin by a teammate to
give Wellesley the lead and then
they quickly added another in just
17 seconds to cushion their lead.
With 1:06 remaining in the
game, Wellesley put the game
away scoring their third goal in a
two minute span of time. The Bulls
out-shot the Applejacks 40-19 but
still came out on the losing end of
the game.

commanding 6-2 lead.
They increased that to a 10-2
lead in the third before Blyth
scored their final goal as time ran
out. Ryan Chamney took the shot
and Michael Bromley slammed
home the rebound with one second
left in the game. This lopsided
game eliminated Blyth from the
playoffs although Clifford played
gracious hosts by providing the
players with hot dogs and choco
late milk to celebrate Minor
Hockey Day.
