Walton area people on H-B Libera! executive Two Walton people were elected to the executive of the Huron-Bruce Liberal Association Wednesday night in Lucknow. Graeme Craig [left] was named vice-president of the group while Margaret Shortreed was named Secretary. Here they chat with Doug Frith, M.P. for Sudbury who was guest speaker at the meeting. Two Walton-area people were elected Wednesday to the execu­ tive of the new Huron-Bruce Liberal Riding Association. Graeme Craig of Walton was named first vice-president. David MacKenzie of Kincardine was elected president. Margaret Short­ reed of Walton is the secretary of the association. Other members of the executive are: Jacqueline McGillvray, Pais­ ley, second vice-president; Judy Gates, Kincardine, treasurer; Jan­ ice McGillvray, Paisley, Allison Scott, Seaforth, Paul Steckle, Zurich and Don Edward, Goderich as directors. Vice presidents for the 13 districts in the riding are: Joe Hogan, Exeter; Jim Love, Zurich; Grant Chisholm, Lucknow; Clar­ ence Denomme, Clinton; Jack Horan, Walton; Joe Semple, Eth­ el; Norman Wilson, Fordwich; Muriel Murphy, Goderich; Gerry Scott, Ripley; Jim Whytock; Ken McDonald; Ann Schildroth; Gerry Moss, Port Elgin. Members of the advisory com­ mittee are: Tom Chisholm, Port Elgin; Rod McDonald, Kincar­ dine; Jim Fitzgerald, Clinton; Eileen Palmer, Goderich; A. Y. McLean, Seaforth; Les Tervit, Gorrie; Howard Aitken, Goderich. 8 tables at Walton euchre Huron East Wl makes future plans The executive of the Huron East District Women’s Institute met at the home of their president, Mrs. Ted Klaassen, in Fordwich, on Monday, January 11 at 10 a.m. Representatives of 10 branches in the District were present. Further plans for the District Annual, which will be held in Moncrief on May 10 were discuss­ ed. Branch program co-ordinators are asked to forward their reports to Mrs. Jean Wilson, Fordwich, District Program Co-ordinator, following their annual meeting. Mrs. Lorianne Schmidt, RR 1, Brunner, FWIO Board Director, gave a brief report of the Board meeting held in Toronto in Novem­ ber. She also outlined plans for a Leadership Development Confer­ ence to be held at Queen’s University, Kingston, on May 13, 14 and 15. The workshops at the conference will stress leadership with the theme on Recycling. Mrs. Jean Wilson will represent the District at this Conference. Reprinting of the new Hand­ books is completed, and branches requiring additional copies of the handbook will obtain them from the Institute office in Guelph. The branches were invited to the 85th anniversary of Ethel Women’s Institute on February 2, at the Ethel Community Centre. Following adjournment of the meeting, a pot luck lunch was enjoyed by the W.I. members. Phone 887-6677 Walton Wl learns how to make resolutions The Walton Women’s Institute members met in the hall Wednes­ day evening, Jan. 20 for their monthly meeting on Resolutions. President Helen Craig called the meeting to order with the Institute Ode, Mary Stewart Collect and O Canada with Marion Godkin as pianist. Annie Reid acted as secretary in the absence of Mar­ garet Shortreed. In the correspondence, an invi­ tation came from Ethel Institute with an invitation to attend their 85th anniversary on February 2 at 1:30 p.m. Several members show­ ed interest in attending. Plans were made for the program to be put on at the Callander Nursing Home in February. It was moved to sponsor a delegate to go to the Leadership Conference May 13- 15. Leona McDonald reported on meetings she had attended recent­ ly- Marion Godkin and Helen Bo- ven, convenors on Resolutions took over the meeting and gave a full detail on how to prepare a Resolution from the Branch. Four­ teen members gave varied an­ swers for the roll call on “A Subject which you would like to see presented in a brief or a resolu­ tion.” Following the Institute Grace, refreshments were served by Viola Kirkby and Berva Watson. Museum gets employment grant Murray Cardiff, M.P. for Huron- Bruce last week announced fund­ ing approval for the Huron County Pioneer Museum in the amount of $22,100. This funding is for redevelop­ ment of the museum which is presently under construction. This grant will assist in moving artifacts from storage to the museum proper; in reassembling artifacts that were dismantled for storage; and in building additional shelving space. Section 38 is a program for people who are unemployed and in receipt of unemployment benefits. These people will continue to receive benefits at an enhanced rate of wages. The objective is to allow individuals to maintain their skills while on unemployment benefits. The proceeds from the draw and the poker rally go to sponsoring minor ball in Walton. There were eight tables in play at the euchre Thursday evening at the hall. Winners were: high lady, June Jacklin; low, Roberta Simpson; high man, Lloyd Appleby; low, John Simpson. The lady with a birthday nearest to Robbie Burns day was Helen Williamson; man with birthday nearest Jan. 25, Jim Smith; high score at table, Emer­ son Mitchell, Jim Smith, Mrs. Hugh Johnston and Mrs. Chas. Harrison. Lunch was servedin the base­ ment, hostesses were Berva Wat­ son, Elva Bolger and Betty McCall. The next euchre is scheduled for February 18.
