Our thanks. BY CRAWFORD DOU(LAS M.P. BRUCIE.GREY Firstly, may I take this opportunity of extending Christmas wishes to all the constituents of the Riding of Bruce-Grey from myself. my wife Lorna and all of our family. We wish you the warmest 'of seasons greetings and the best for the coming New Year. With the old year draWing to a dose. I would like tolet you know about some of the things that have happened in the past month, which you might find of interest. Recently, I was named Chair- man of the Standing• Committee. on Broadcasting, Films and Assistance to the Arts. This Committee is responsible for studying the Spending Estimates. and all other matters of the. Department of the Secretary of State , and the Minister of Communications pertinent to the Committee.. One of the first items that will be on our agenda .following the passage of the Supplementary Estimates will be a study of the Farm Broadcast policy of the,,CBC and of broadcasters in general. This issue came to the fore in the last session of the House. However, the motion itself came so close to the end of the session, that the Committee 'was unable to deal with, lt them, so now it appears that it .will be re-intro- duced sometime in the next week or so by the Governinent House . Leader. It will be our wish to deal with this matter as quickly ,as possible in Committee, as farm broadcast- ing, in particular radio farm broadcasting is of the utmost importance to the residents of this Riding. I hope that our delibera- tions will lead to an improvement in the position that farm broadcasting and farm infonna- tion hold with the national netWork. I do believe that improvements are always Possible of this nature. HoWever, I must take this , opportunity to commend the agricultural broad- casting done by CKNX and CFOS. •We in this area are most fortunate to have these two stations , to' accommodate the people., As a. member of the Standing Committee on Agriculture, it was my privilege recently to present a' motion to the Committee, which has been accepted by all Parties. The motion was that the Report on Beef Marketing recently presented to the Prime Minister' be reviewed • by the Standing Committee on Agriculture. This should be done so that all aspects of the •Report, together with a thorough and comprehensive study of the many problems now confronting the beef industry can be completely studied and recommendations made by the Committee to alleviate the many problems that now face the cattle industry. In the New Year; I will be reporting to you from Parliament Hill once again. This then is my final report for ,1976 and may 1' take this opportunity once again to wish you and yours a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. , Happy holidays!
