Whitechurch Women's Institute
held their Christmas meeting
Wednesday, December 8 with a pot'
luck dinner at 12 noon. Immediate-
ly after dinner the gifts beneath the
decorated. Christmas tree Were
passed. out by Mrs. Fisher and
Mrs. McGuire. Each opened their
parcel and told who their' Secret
-Sister was.
Mrs: McGuire, president, open-
ed the .meeting with the singing of
the Ode, repeating in unison the
Collect and the Lord's Prayer.
Mrs. McGuire welcomed the visit-.
ors, guests and members, and gave
a • reading, Getting "Ready for
Christmas, emphasizing Don't ab-
breviate the word' Christmas, and
never use abbreviations 'for
christ'.s work; Mrs. Fisher gaNie the
financial statement. A thank you
card was received from Mrs. Evan
Keith. A committee was appointed
to look after the anniversary dinner
on January 15th. The roll call was
answered by all • drawing the name
of their Secret Sister, and it, was
agreed to leave the price near the
dollar value. -
Carol singing of 0 come all ye'
faithful, Infant - Holy and. It 'came
upon a midnight clear, was enjoyed
with Mrs. Don Ross announcer and.
Mrs. Farrier pianist. A Christmas
play by. Mrs. McGuire, Mrs:
Fisher, Mrs. Johnston Conn, Miss '
Merle Wilson, was' much enjoyed.

convention held at Chesley Novem
ber 15th and 16th was read for Mrs.
Bill Evans the • delegate by Mrs.
Victor Emerson, who then present-
ed Mrs. McGuire and Mrs. Fisher
with Branch Life Member Badges
on behalf of the Branch for .their •
work in the branch.
Mrs. Milian. Moore gave ..read-
ings, The night before Christmas,
when many recited the poein along .
with her .and • • The, Master. is
Coming.
The guest speaker was James
Stanley and ,his wife from listowel.
He wis introduced by Mrs.
McGuire. He first read a scripture
lesson and, then showed' slides of
where he and his wife and family'
began their work as missionaries in
the bUsh in Africa. There were
5000 people here and very little
contact with outside world. They
danced from January to, June from
1 to 7 days 'a week. Their babies
were carried on their back. All
Christmas! That special time of the
year. A time when families and friends gather
together to share and enjoy the season. And
a time when we give special thanks.

lived in the compound where all
was Shared. After age 1.2 they had
to fight with' devils. Questions
asked them, Is there a God and
they agreed and were afraid to
meet Him. The country is full of
termites which would eat clothing
and many things if not constantly
moved. In January all the growth
is burned off with heat. Houses are
made of bainboo straw and sticks.
Farms are cut out of bUsh. Mr.
Stanley told of his many experienc-
es with the native's bringing their
dying friends to him;. how he
prayed for them and many times
God answered his . prayer by
restoring thorn and giving ' the
natives a neW faith in God.. •
He was thanked by Mrs. V.
le on and presented with a gift.
. Rena Fisher then' played a
medley of Christmas songs. The
meeting.closed with singing of the
Queen. ,
