Unit 1, Lucknow United .Church Women, held their Christmas meeting in the church parlour' on. Tuesday afternoon, December 7th. Mrs. Chas. McDonald. 'veiled the meeting with a poem, The Christ- mas Spirit. 'The hymn, While Shepherds watched their flocks, was sung, followed by prayer. The roll call was well answered by' 14 members and one visitor giving a childhood recollection of Christ- mas. Mrs. Andrew Ritchie gave the treasurer's report for the month • and the. year. Mrs. Ruby McDonald gave a report of the' visit to Pinecrest on November 23 when Unit 1 had entertained and visited and would like • to thank Walter Dexter and Mrs. Pete Cook for their musical entertaining. The, reports for the year of the different committees were given for Citizenship, prepared by Mrs. Lorne. Woods and read by Mrs. Cliff Menary. Mrs: Eldon Hender- son gave the report on community friendship and visiting. Mrs.. Worden Howald gave the report on Christian Missionary Education and Mrs. Glen Walden for social functions. The report for supply and welfare was given by Mrs. Beryl Hunter and the sectional report by Mrs. Grace Gibson. The study book on China was' given by Mrs. Glen Walden, dealing especially with The status of women in China compared to the rest of the 'world and also previous to the 1949 revolution. The conclusion was reached that they had certainly' heard of women's lib. The general meeting is Thurs- day night, December 9th and the Sunday' School concert on Decem- ber 19th. - The committee for• the devotional was Mrs. Dori Cardis, Mrs. Chas. McDonald, Mrs. Chas. Hallam, Mrs. John McMurchy. Mrs. Chas. McDonald was chairman and opened the program with a• poem. Hymn No'. 53 was sung. Mrs. Don Cardis read the Christmas story from scripture, 2nd chapter .of Matthew and Mrs. John McMur- chy gave the meditation. We were very pleased to have Miss Anne Ferguson, Mrs. Mc- Murchy's granddaughter, with us who played a beautiful instrument- al "How Great. Thou Art: and also played for is at lunch time. Readings were given by Mrs.. Cliff Menary, Religion and Life, Do We Toss Out the Christmas Spirit with the Christmas Tree; Mrs. Worden Howald, The Spirit of Christmas; Mrs. Walter Alton. spelled out the meaning of Christmas; Mrs. Eldon Henderson, The Tree of the Christ Child, and Mrs. Bill Hunter, Christmas Prep- arations. Mrs, Eunice Dunsmuir favoured with a beautiful vocal solo, Star of the East. Hymn No. 64 was sung and the meeting closed with prayer and lunch was served by the committee.
