DECEMBER 1966
Robert Lyons of West Wawanosh
was the new Reeve of that
municipality, elected from three
candidates for the office. The four
council seats were filled by
acclamation, Harold En-ington, Leo
Foran, James Aitchison and Leon-
ard Chisholm, •
For the two vacancies ,on the
Huron County School Area No. 2
only one nominee signed up,
Wallace Wilson. , A second
nomination meeting was called
when Wm. Webster was pressured
into 'returning to the School Area
board for his 49th year as a school
trustee.
Two sitting councilors in Kinloss
Township waged a, dose battle for
the Reeveship .with William Evans
edging Wallace Conn by 36 votes to
take the honours. The new Reeve
was a veteran of six years on the
Kinloss Council. His opponent had
served the township for eleven
years on the council board. The
four, council members received an
acclamation as William E. Halden-
by and. Orville • Elliott again
qualified with two new men Leo
Murray and Duncan Cimpbell.
The new reeve Mr. Evans was a
resident of Whitechurch. The
village was around 125 years old
and it was believed to be the first
time they had been privileged to
have the honour of the Reeve' of
Kinloss Township 'as a resident of
the village.
Gary Suter was awarded a
National Council Scholarship for
post-doctoral studies at the Otto
Graf Institute in Stuttgart, Germ-
any.
30 YEARS AGO
DECEMBER 1946
Alex MacKenzie of Langside was
elected reeve of Kinloss Township.
Mr. MacKenzie's selection climaxed
fifteen years of service as a ,
councillor. Elected to council were
George Tiffin, David H. Carruth-
ers, Russell, Gaunt, John Colwell.
The second timber wolf pelt in a
month was received at the county
treasurer's office at Goderich. This
wolf was shot near Amberley by
Bert Johnston of Ashfield Town-
ship.
A new hold-up alarm system,
which had ' been devised by the
Bank of Montreal in conjunetion
with a protection agency, was
being installed in all the bank's
branches across the country and
the bank's local office hete had
been provided with this added
protection. The first to use a
system of this type, the Bank .of
Montreal was meeting with fullest
co-operation of police departments.

Rev. John Pollock of higersoll
accepted a call to the Whitechurch
Presbyterian Church'.
The Lucknow Dramatic Company
scored a fine success in the
presentation of the humorous play
"Welcome Home Jimmy". Th'ose
who took part were: Mrs. J. W.
Joynt. Mary Aitchison, Rena
MacDonald, Mrs. Helena Sherriff,
,Lorna Campbell, Joe Hassan, T. S.
Reid, W. B. Anderson, Torn
Watson. Roy MacKenzie's Orches-
tra, Ripley, entertained the crowd
before the start and between acts of
the play.
A report of the Lucknow nomina-
tion meeting for 1926 read in part:
There was a crowd that packed the
council chamber to overflowing,
with many candidates nominated,
good speeches, some fireworks and
some fun. -The* finances and hydro
department were 'reported in good
cdhdition. The new council
received an acclamation. Robert
Johnston who had served as reeve
for ten years 'was succeeded: by D.,
M. Johnstone. Councillors hidud-
ed Robert Rae, Alfred Buswell.
Robert Mullin and a newcomer to
the board, Wm. Spindler. •
