On Thursday, November 25, two
hardened and rugged, football
teams, eyed each other across the
scrimmage line.. They had `braved
the snowy and wind-swept field to
participate in the third annual-Flag
Football Championship.. The Blue
Bombers, under the leadership of
Steve Ball and Kooten's Kougers,
guided by John VanKooten, had
won the right to play in the. Ripley
Bowl.
Field conditions during the.
season had varied from dry to
muddy to snow-covered, Each
game was not only a contest
against 'an opposing team but
against field conditions as well.
Traction on the field the day of
the final game was good with only
some muddy sections near the goal
posts.,
The Blue Bombers were depend-
ing on their kicking team to keep
them deep in kouger territory and
bust their way in for touch-downs.
UnfOrtunately for The Bombers,
John VanKooten, with the aid of
valuable blocking, clawed his way
down the field for a touch down.
The convert attempt failed,
The Blue Bombers were demor-
afized. Time was running out,
Riding high on their first touch-
down, VanKooten made tracks
down the field for the !Conger's
second touchdown and the final
score of the game. • The bell
sounded with the score 12-0 in
favour of Kooten'§ !Congers. .
