Dungannon Women's Institute
• met. Decernber ,1 in the United
Church at 7 p.m. for the annual
'Christmas dinner meeting. The
president, Mrs. Elmer Black,
welcomed.members and'guests and
began the meeting using W.I.
grace, a Toast to. the Queen and
singing The Queen followed by 0
Canada. Mrs. Gordon Finnigan
was pianist.
The tables were,. attractive with
Christmas decorations and soon
were laden with food as each
person returned from the smorgas-
bord table with turkey and all the
trimmings. The executive served
tea, and refilled our plates. Favours
were an added interest and these
donations were apprecitated.
Interspersed with the meal were
prizes for dinner r plate with
Christmas seal, winner Mrs. Victor
Black; lucky chair, Mrs. Russel
Alton; lucky cup, Mrs. Everett
'Errington; nearest birthday, Ivan
Rivett; lucky dessert plate, Mrs.
Graham' McNee ; closest wedding
date, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Black.•
There were 44 in attendance.
There was the presentation of a.
Life Membershipmhen Mrs. Harry
Clements read an address to. Mrs.
Cecil Blake who has been a
member of Dungannon for over 30
years and who has served in
various offices. Mrs. Hugh.'
McWhinney presented her with a
Life Membership certificate and
pin. Mrs. Blake expressed her
appreciation of this honour.
Mrs. Russel Alton sang/ two
lovely Christmas numbers; Infant
Holy and Gentle Mary, accompan-
ied. by Mrs. Finnigan. The
exchange of Christmas gifts was
enjoyed. ,
The tables were then cleared,
after which Mr. and Mrs. Delmer
Sproul were guests and : gave
beautiful and interesting movies on
Jamaica,. Acapulco and Mexico
City, also scenes of bull-fighting.
Mrs. E. Black who had introduced
them, thanked them and presented
a gift in appreciation. The evening
concluded with Christmas' Greet-

leacher Passes
NORMAN S. CALVERT
Norman S. Calvert of Paris died
suddenly on Thursday, December 2
at home at 13 Riverview Terrace.
Mr. Calvert began his teaching
career at Lucknow Continuation
School in 1933, going to Paris High
School in, 1943 where he was vice
principal until his retirement in
1969. He was head of the science
department in both schools and
taught several subjects in the field
of science, 'including general
science, biology, chemistry and
physics.
Born near Lindsay, Mr. Calvert
received his bachelor of arts degree
from McMaster University, Hamil-
ton. He held a life-long • interest in
athletics, excelling in track as a
sprinter and assisted with athletic
programs at Lucknow • and Paris
schools. He was active in curling at
the Paris Curling Club. •
Mr. Calvert is survived by his
wife, the former Marion Johnston,
whom he married at Lucknow in
1930; and a daughter, Mrs. A.
(Joyce) Anderson of Vancpuver.
Funeral services were held
Saturday,. December 4 from the
William Kipp r Funeral Home,
Paris, with Rev. A. B. Embree
ings to all.
ENTERTAIN AT PINECREST
Recently 12 Dungannon W.I.
members went to Lucknow Pine-
crest Manor to help -entertain at
their November 'birthday gather-
ing. Program preiented included
Christmas solos by Mrs. Russel
Alton, group singing of carols, a
reading by. Miss Beth McConnell,
and instrumental music by Mrs.
Gordon Finnigan. Refreshments
including' birthday cake, were
enjoyed.
